Wife was driving today and the red ligntening bolt to the left of the spedo began blinking and the temp guage started fluxuating up and down. Anyone ever seen this b4? Took it home turned it off and a few minuted later I started it back up and no light and temp guage was fine. What the heck?...

That is weird. Wonder if it wasnt sensor malfunction. Or moisture causing a short in something

Does the driver ever brake with their left foot?

Only when doing burnouts :ROTFL: .
Which is never. I've had the rig for about 4 years and this is the first time it has done it. Wife called me this morning and said it did it again on her way to work and now it is accompanied by a check engine light. I'll get the code ran and get back to you guys.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess Alternator Decoupler or Temperature sensor in the back of the Thermostat.

Just sayin'

I'll check connections Mack. Thanks. Wife is getting tired of this thing messing up all of the time.

I had that light while driving home and noticed the light dimming as I drove. Ended up draining the battery and found the alternator was shot. Replaced with a Autozone Duralast #15457 160 amp Limited lifetime warranty for $145.00. Working great so far.

Did it have two like brackets going smaller to the lighting bolt. and it is red it is to do with the throttle control system some were there is a fault maybe at the accelerator pedal. Had it show up on a 5500 cummins powered pick up.

Hope this helps

A great place to start is the owner's Manual. Page 175:

Quote:
29. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) Warning Light — If Equipped
This light informs you of a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem is detected the light will come on while the engine is running. Cycle the ignition key when the vehicle has completely stopped and the gear selector is placed in the P (Park) position. The light should turn off. If the light remains lit with the engine running your vehicle will usually be drivable, however, see your dealer for service as soon as possible. If the light is flashing when the engine is running, immediate service is required and you may experience reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine stall and your vehicle may require towing. The light will come on when the ignition is first turned on and remain on briefly as a bulb check. If the light does not come on during starting, have the system checked by an authorized dealer.

It seems weird that a warning light might be optional (i.e., if equipped) but now you have a better idea of what it might be, and that the light has two modes, steady and flashing.

Good luck.

Applying brake and throttle simultaneously will set the ETC lightening bolt.

I don't think this is happening. Funny that it would just now be showing up after having and driving it the same way for 4 years. Yes it does have the 2 brackets surrounding the light. It is blinking also but everything seems to be working fine (for now).

Something new today. Still has the lightening bolt light and temp guage still fluxuating but today it died at start up a couple times with a big "CLUNK" and idled very oddly. ses light gives abs code as well as thermostat switch code (per the NAPA guy). How is this all related and where do I start to fix it?

Did you read user113's post? Flashing light, engine stall, weird idle = serious problems with the throttle control system.

Your most recent post suggests NAPA pulled some codes; if so what were they?

Could be several things depending on the codes but the first off thing to look at with electrical weirdness is the condition of the battery (read need a load test) and alternator output.

I had this happen years ago. Had the throttle position sensor changed but didn't fix it. It ended up being a ground short somewhere in the wiring harness in the engine bay. Never found where but I narrowed it down to sharp right hand turns which caused the light to come on. Secured the harness better with zip ties and haven't had an issue is three years.

any idea why?? my local shop says the throttle bodys go bad ,replaced quite a few esp. mopars.. just wondered if possible to degunk or if its electrical misscommunication w/ pedal. hate to spend $400 and not fix it

GDE tune I believe will let you apply brake and gas without the light coming on.

The throttle body (FCV) has nothing to do with ETC on these motors, so don't go that route.

Post subject:  Re: first time seeing this guage lite come on.

Scanned codes again. Only thing that popped up was P0117 temp sensor low imput. I checked all connections and looked for broken wires. I positioned the wire and tried to work out any sharp angles. I cleared code and so far it hasn't reappeared and temp guage isn't bouncing like it was before. The lightening bolt light went off as well but I presume it was from me clearing the codes. The other day when my wife had the codes ran at napa it was giving an abs code as well. Would the abs system have anything to do with this throttle system light? I've heard talk about bad wheel bearings throwing abs lights. Any connection here?

Also I just checked for bad wheel bearings. No play or wiggle up front but both back wheels have all around motion. There isn't supposed to be any axle play right? Would this have any corralation with my original issue?

Post subject:  Re: first time seeing this guage lite come on.

Ok I've been on this all day but I'm 99.9999% sure I found the cause of my ses light and the lightening bolt light. Found several fraid wires on top of the engine. The plastic loom that surrounds the wires seems to be rottening away in several sections on the harness. If I could figure out how to post pics from my "My pics" folder on my computer I would show you exactly where (or I could text them to someone who could post them for me). The insulation was worn off and shiney copper was showing so they have been grounding out. Not every problem leads to the most expensive solution (thankfully). I wonder if the dealer would have found this before replacing several sensors first?...
