I have an 05 jeep CRD that is running about 40% power...no acceleration and a top speed of 50mph. The CCV has a lot of oil around it and the MAP sensor is always covered in oil (oil level is on the lower part of safe on dipstick). I've had the MAF sensor unplugged for about a year. I've tried plugging it back in but it does not solve the problem. My OBD is throwing codes for the MAP sensor and 0299 which I believe is the turbo. I have tried replacing the MAP sensor, but did not help. I unplugged the MAP sensor wiring harness and put a volt meter to all 4 prongs and did not get any power from the harness. Any ideas fellas?

Have you pulled the boost hoses for a good examination? Do you have any smoke? I would start there......

All hoses appear in good condition. I cannot hear any leaks. No smoke coming from jeep...no smells of oil either. All the components around the turbo are covered in oil.

Try checking the rubber boot from the turbo inlet to the airbox. It also has a hose that connects to the ccv that is prone to cracking around the hose clamp. you will have to remove the boost hose on the passenger side to get to it. How about a little history on your KJ. miles, upgrades, how long you have had the Italian mistress, location.

Try boost pressure solenoid bypass viewtopic.php?f=5&t=70602&p=757348&hilit=boost+solenoid#p757348

Check vacuum hose viewtopic.php?f=5&t=70602&p=757348&hilit=boost+solenoid#p757348

smacker: I've had this jeep for about 2.5 years here in northern Alabama. No upgrades, just had the MAF sensor unplugged. It has about 180k miles. Ran great up until about 6 months ago. It started to sporadically loose power, but it would always fix itself. I cleaned the MAP sensor, then replaced it, however the problem has continually gotten worse. Now the MAP sensor is immediately covered with oil as soon as I clean it. The jeep idles smooth as silk, but when you try to go it is extremely sluggish (it shifts hard sometimes too).

I'll check those hoses when I get home this evening. What do y'all think about the MAP sensor wiring harness not getting power? I'm wondering if there is possibly a computer problem. I can't clear the codes on the computer anymore with my OBD reader, and last night I unplugged the battery all night but when I cranked it up the CEL came on immediately (even with MAF plugged in)... weird.

That gives us a little more info to work with. When was the last time you bled air from the fuel filter? Do you still have the original Optima battery? Have you upgraded the fuel filter assembly? I am assuming you have done the timing belt by now......or have solid proof it was done! The map sensor will probably get sooted up quickly without the GDE tune and 180K miles worth of crap in your intake / EGR /ACV. Check some of threads for Intake elbow pictures and you will wonder how they run at all.

This was mine after 130K Checked it at 155K after GDE tune almost spotless. need I say more about GDE...best mod for the money you can buy!

you guys are the best... started to inspect more deeply today and saw the charger hose from the airbox to turbo was severely cut. Ya'll probably saved my life by preventing a heart attack due to my blood pressure spiking every time I got in the jeep.

It usually tears on the very bottom where it connects to the turbo, right against the clamp.

Yep, I've had both of my hoses do the "only leaks under pressure and only where you can't see it" thing, typically in a bend where the oil coalesces a bit when it's cool. The ONLY way to tell for sure if you don't THINK it's leaking is removal, good cleaning, and a careful visual inspection flexing it around in your hands a bit. Thankfully, nut drivers, simple green, and shop rags are pretty cheap.

BTW, I know people are paranoid of oil in the intake, but as long as it's clean (i.e. not accompanied by soot from the EGR) and not a large volume, it's really not particularly harmful. As long as the MAP is just damp with oil, that's okay. Closed crank cases do blow a little oil and the system's designed to burn it off effectively (again, as long as the EGR is not blowing soot...). It DOES use diesel, after all :)

Dan
