I have a problem with my 05 CRD and I was wondering if I could get alittle help please. Every time I go over a bump, even a small one, I hear this "Clunk, Clunk, Clunk" (Clunking) type of noise coming from the rear end of my KJ. It kinda reminds me of the sound I used to hear when driving my old truck and I would go over a bump in the road and stuff in the bed would bounce around and make noise. I have an 05 CRD with approx. 16k miles on it. This sound was not always there. I noticed it over the winter sometime. Anyone that can offer any advice on this, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Did you install the grommits in the front strut mounts when you did the Daystar lift? I just put a Daystar 2.5 in my CRD. The only thing I can think of that would cause a clunking would be forgetting to install the grommits in the top of the front strut mounts.

Check the upper suspension link (center bushing) to your rear axle for play. Commonly called a V-link in heavy vehicles, has similar mechanical action as a upper control arm on the front end (but mounted sideways). Great for articulation but the center bushings usually don't wear well, especially if pulled to an abnormal angle such as might happen with a suspension lift.

I just fixed a similar problem on my 06 CRD Sport. After installing the RRO 2.5" Lift with new Doetsch Tech shocks, I heard two thumps from the rear everytime I went over a speed bump. Turned out to be 1/4" of play where the top of the shock absorbers bolts to the frame. I added a large washer and the noise has since stopped.

Had the same issue with mine. Turned out the top shock bolts were loose. Check to make sure that they are torqued to 50-60ftlbs

Yes this is a very common issue on lifted KJs. It's almost always related to the non-factory rear shocks. Good luck.
