With so much talk about EGR systems & Glow plugs? I thought a reminder of things may be in order. If your Jeep dose not have any EGR Mods (GDE or SEGR) then if the EGR or Glow plugs malfunction you will get a CEL (check engine light). If your Jeep has a EGR mod (GDE or SEGR) then if the EGR malfunctions you will not get a CEL. (EGR removal or blocking plates may be needed to assure your EGR is not leaking, degrading performance) If the Glow plugs malfunction you will get a CEL. If your Jeep has a ORM mod (MAF disconnected) then you will have a CEL all the time and will have no indication of a leaking EGR valve degrading performance. Also a bad Glow Plug which may cause hard starting and possible breakage of the original ceramic plug. Leading to Engine damage. I highly suggest everyone to get a GDE or SEGR mod. Replace your Glow Plugs with Steel 7v drop in replacements. Or 5v Glow plug kit. Don't just disconnect the MAF & drive it assuming everything is ok. Just a friendly reminder as winter approaches. Good luck! KJJET |

I am running the ORM and still got a code from a stuck EGR. I plugged in the AMM for inspection and it must've plugged. I cleared the code and drove to Delaware, and when I scanned it after the return trip, both codes were there again. I was surprised. I cleaned the EGR and all was well. It also ran poorly, as in, had hesitation and occasional stumbling. I scan mine every oil change, at least. I also just did the 5v Mopar update on the glow plugs for piece of mind. The originals still worked and were in fine shape, but I did not want to take the chance. It would be prudent to replace the ceramics if you are still running them. If you do the 7v drop in steel units, replace the glow plug control module (relay) as well. I suspect they can stick occasionally with age and cause the glow plugs to overheat and fail. Had this problem on an older diesel and it caused the steel glow plugs to fail, break, and damage the engine. |

Mike. Yes... it will still code. But you never know when that darn EGR will start causing issues. I know it costs money but you should get a SEGR kit. or GDE tune so your CEL will go out. Then take the EGR out for good. If i was to do things over i would get a SEGR. I just dropped in the 7v Glow Plugs. I had one go bad last week. Good thing i purchased new ones from ID Parts last month. Easy job after the intake elbow was removed. None were stuck due to i had them out 15k ago and re-installed them with anti-seize. 35 degrees this AM. Great start! Good luck, KJJET |

I may do a GDE tune eventually, but it is money I don't have to spend right now. I just keep an eye on things with the scan tool, which is at least once a month given the mileage I am driving now. Have not really had a chance to "test" my 5v glow plugs. Hopefully they will work well! |
