It recently snowed in NH & on a back road I found it beneficial to move from 4WH (Full Time) (to Part Time). I returned to (Full Time 4WH) before hitting dry pavement. Now the Jeep feels like it's slipping in the Viscous Coupling Differential? Soft / Hard acceleration proves troubling to tranny as it revs & cannot find 2nd....then back to 1rst....then 2nd....then 3rd. This doesn't of course happen in 4WD (Part time).
Thanks in advance,
Bob

sounds like 4 wheel drive is still engaged, even though the indicator light on the dash is off. Happened to me and I don't know where this malfunction occurs.

Try this..... lift the 4 wheel drive lever back to the 4 wheel hi position and slowly move the vehicle backwards then place it neutral and disengage the 4 wheel drive then in reverse again for 30' and it should have disengaged. It worked for me .

Not sure what causes this condition.

RacerTracer,
Thanks for the help. I assumed "neutral" was both on the transmission & the Selec Trac. After running through both ideas, the problem remains. Strange thing that is now happening is that the CEL is off? (CEL on...tranny now acting strange.....CEL off. No longer remember what codes were running when CEL was on, but it had to do with the tranny.
Talking to local Diesle Tech on Monday. All ideas before this are much appreciated.

Next thing I would do before taking it to the Stealer or Mechanic, is to disconnect the TCM and ECM and reset the system, allow the TCM to relearn the shift points.

New codes are now: P0731,P0732,P0733,P0734,P0740...I have yet to try "disconnect the TCM and ECM and reset the system" mainly as I haven't learned how to....

Might just be you need new speed senors. Front and rear on transmission. I got mine off ebay for $26 for the pair and it takes only about 10 minutes to install them.

Taking advantage of the nice weather in NH, I replaced the speed sensors (both). Test run going into 4WLO & returning to FULL TIME 4WD proved that there is still "pinching" when tight turns are made. However, the CEL is staying off! Did I notice a REAR speed sensor? Or is this just a Temp. Sensor? I think I'll get it tested at the dealership, unless HELP is available on this list?
Thanks, Bob

The dealer diagnosed the issue as a needed, Upper-Rear control arm! So glad it's not something in the transmission.

I may have misunderstood what you just said, but this "pinching" is normal in 4lo and 4 part time due to axles being locked. Since you said "returning to full time 4wd", I wonder if you were in full time or part time, or if your shifter indeed shifted in full time. Full time being 4wd axles unlocked, it should not "pinch". 05s have the abs sensor in the differential for rear.

No worries, you didn't missunderstand. The dealership also said the Power Steering fluid was "empty". They filled it up & cannot find any leaks in the system (as of yet).
Would this produce a "pinching" feeling, coupled with the Upper control arm being loose.
I'll be sure to report what it drives like when I pick it up.
Thanks
