Yesterday's turbo swap out proved to be less than successful. My turbo was badly worn.

It's looking like my engine has some bad rocker arms. What is causing these to fail on an engine with 146,000 miles.
Jay in Ohio had his crap out at 122,000.

If it would do any good I would complain the VM Motori.
What I pain in the @&%^ this car is becoming :banghead:

Thanks for allowing me to rant

Tom

Soot in the oil from the EGR is the main suspect. Has your EGR been in service for all those miles? If yes, then be prepared to spend a good amount of time cleaning your intake manifold / valve cover when you get it apart. It's arteries will be caked up with soot from the EGR mixed with oil from the CCV.

I bought this used. Previous owner had disabled the EGR

I suspect that the rocker failures are a combination of a few factors:

1) soot from the EGR contaminates the oil.
2) long oil change intervals.
3) wrong oil being used
4) short trips = oil diluted by fuel = more wear

The previous owner of my red CRD had his oil changed at one of those Jiffy Lube places. There was a sticker on the window that said 5w30 oil was used. There are no synthetic diesel oils of that grade, so I suspect it did not meet specs for our engine.

When I got mine, it had semisynthetic oil in it, don't remember the weight, most people have no clue it's a diesel...

I flush the motor at every oil change to keep the carbon off the bottom of the pan and other engine parts.

How do you flush your engine?
