So i have been experiencing a coolant leak for quite some time now. The only reason i hadnt addressed it is that it went away for the last, oh i dont know, 8 MONTHS. Now the jeep is starting it again and this time its worse. I also got 2 engine codes, P1263 and P0672. It also said it had an overboost code at one point however i havent had it act up while driving engine wise. I know these are both glow plug #2 related. Now what i know so far is this.
-The jeep just hit 118K
-The radiator hoses get a lot of pressure really quickly
-It occasionally bubbles at the overflow line
-When i release the pressure after each drive (which is a good amount btw) it relieves the problem.

I have been taking the last action after EVERY drive even if its for a minute. When i do that it has no problems at all. So this is what im thinking, and correct me if im wrong. I feel that the head gasket is leaking into the #2 cylinder. Whether it be a warped cylinder head, a leak in the gasket itself, or heaven forbid a cracked sleave or exhaust port. What i was thinking of doing is purchasing the ARP head bolts and torqing them down to see if that fixes the problem (ie if its a slightly warped head.) I have heard of this working on some occasions. If that doesnt work then i was planning on removing the head and taking a look at the gasket. I am really hoping doing this will fix it as i am not made of money. Any thoughts? Ive got my fingers crossed that this wont be over 1K to do this myself.

You're going to have to replace the gasket as well, which means taking off the entire head. You should do that anyways to check for warping.

Cost doesn't change much, but time spent definitely goes up.

I have heard of people changing out the TTY (Torque to yield) bolts one by one using ARP bolts to the correct specs and solving the problem. I figured it couldnt hurt to try right? Or is it even worth the cost of the bolts?

Good luck with that, but once you get to the studs, you are only 2 hrs away from doing it right once. If you cooling system is pressurizing, you need more then a torquing. Once you get that far, ask your self do you want to do it 2 times?

Having done he ARP studs then the head gasket eight months later..... I would do it all at once. You are there. It is not a small job.
You should be able to do the head gasket kit and ARP studs for around $500 parts if memory serves me correctly. There was nothing worse than spending all that time on the studs only to have the problem resurface. Replacing the head gasket and having the jeep run better than ever was awesome.

The only downfall is its currently my only vehicle. My 2nd vehicle is currently in progress of an engine swap. I could possibly have that one up and running in about a month if it all goes smooth. Im trying to hold off till then to tear into the diesel.

Rental car and Fedex, a HG leaking like that may cause more damage, but mine was leaking quite a while and it survived it just fine. But if coolant starts getting into the crank case you will have bigger problems.
