Hey ppl. I got the TPMS light on and all tires are on 34 psi including the spare. So here is my question, how do I know which sensor to work on?
05 limited with GDE tune.
thanks in advance.

All tires including the spare, as you said, must be around the recommended pressure, you can go as much as you want over, but only couple psi under.

The sensors communicate with bcm I believe only when wheels are spinning ant it may take few good miles in City drive. I think the manual said to drive at highway speeds for over 10 min, or something like that, in case you just replaced them. The car is too "stupid" to tell you which tire is low, maybe the EVIC would know if you have one.

If the light is on and all the tires have good pressure then one or more sensors have died, probably a dead battery as the sensor battery life span is ca. 5-12 years with an average of about 7. Absent an EVIC, which gives a pressure reading for each tire, I'm pretty sure you need to drop by someplace that has a scan tool that can query the system and tell you which sensor is out. Likely that would mean a trip to the dealer.

FYI a decent and not expensive replacement sensor is the Dorman 974-001 which most tire places will install for like $10. No need to "train" the system, just drive a few miles at over like 10mph and the system will pickup the new sensor.

Or you could do what I did, set the steering wheel so you won't see that yellow tpms light and you're good to go, lol. I had to replace my tires, and I went to tire rack, the rims were pretty cheap, so I got a set of rims also, all 4 wheels with tpms sensors. Turned out that tpms was leaking (at the valve stem), tried to tie it more but didn't help. So I ended up replacing the valves with non tpms and I just drive with the tpms light on, it does not chime at all (chimes only first time, that's it) and the steering wheel trick works for me great. I do not believe it is worth the trouble taking the tire off and spending money on something that you can check so easy, like air pressure.

The only problem with the Dorman unit is that they cause the TPMS warning light to come on randomly because they're not "JEEP Parts."

They work 100% correctly.

All I can say is stoutdog has been running with a Dorman unit in one tire for about 2 years with no problems and no random warning light.

nice. thanks ppl. do you guys know if the GDE scan tool will read which sensor I have to work on? I have the EVIC but it does not show individual tires. is there a trick to make it show the 4 tires individually :?:

On our 2005 Ltd, EVIC has always displayed the 4 tires rolling on the ground. Recently, the warning light has come on the dash and the RF tire position has displayed dashes when it is below 10F. Works again when it warms up outside.

About to replace with Dorman unit.

As far as I know the GDE scan tool will not help identify a bad TPMS sensor.

I'm speculating a bit based on other chats but there seem to be several EVIC modules and apparently not all of them display individual tire pressures for the 4 tires on the ground when you step through the displays. The FSM and Owner's Manual, if you believe them, implies that if a TPMS sensor goes bad the EVIC will display a message as to which one is bad.

You need a tool like this to test the sensors.....................

Your generic code puller will not access the TPMS system.

Launch makes a nice bluetooth adapter for your smart phone for cheap. Just download the app and try the demo.

Works nice, simply purchase the different modules for $40ea on line. My $$$$$ obd2 tools are collecting dust now.

They were giving these away at SEMA, where I got mine.

The EVIC will only display the correct (or any) tire information if the BCM has been told that the car HAS an EVIC display. I was able to get an EVIC into my CRD limited, but as it never had one initially, the EVIC powered up and showed the tires... Then flashed to another screen and the tire information was hidden forever after.

Generic scanners cannot access the BCM, so they cannot access the TPMS system which is buried in the BCM. The overpriced "AutoEnginuity" system CAN read the TPMS as well as many other systems... BUT that is a look-and-no-touching kind of system. You can't change anything like recoding the BCM. It will read and clear codes from just about everything however. I call it overpriced because you have to buy their generic setup first, THEN purchase the "Chrysler Advanced" system which is... Another full dongle system. Duplicating what you already have. There is no need (other than pure greed) for you to be forced into buying anything other than the advanced scanners. Their "support" is also crap, unresponsive to questions about what their system can actually DO (Oh, just read our website!) and you are only "renting" the current version of the software. If you want new features (that they are ambiguous on what they might be) you have to pay again and again and again.

NOT worth the money.

Do you have an evic? If so step till a blank screen and hold reset for 5 seconds. This will trigger a screen showing when each of the four wheel transmits it's info to the bcm. Check see which one is not triggering if the four are all triggering then it's your spare.

Every "good" scanner you must buy updates for it every year if you want to keep current on new model years and revised older model years. It's about $600 a year for Domestic,$600 for Asian, and then $600 for European which means $1800 a year to cover everything but companies like Snapon will bundle updates and give discounts for repeat updating which does help.

Heck the dealerships must even buy updates for each of there scanners every year, they must, and some dealers have many OE level scanners.

This would be VERY interesting to know if it would work on a CRD that had the EVIC added after-the-fact.

I ran all to my libby and tried... didn't work :? any more tips? are the batteries on the sensors replaceable?

It wouldn't matter anyway - you would need to dismount the tire from the rim anyway just to change the battery. Might as well suck it up and replace the sensors entirely.

True. I just need to know how to find which sensor is the one failing. My evic does not show individual tires.
