I know this is a controversial topic.

So, The President wants to establish higher MPG standards for heavy duty trucks.
I wonder if this mandate will undo all the emissions controls that have killed MPG and efficiency
of diesel engines over the years.
Do you think The President is even aware of how DEF, DPF, and EGR systems have hurt the
efficiency of these trucks? I dont think he even knows how a diesel engine works.
It already seems that the EPA is trying to kill the diesel engine and I seriously doubt the EPA will
lower emissions standards in favor of high MPG. The EPA cant seem to understand the logic that
an engine that burns less fuel produces fewer emissions.

Look, I like green trees and clean air.
But it seems that those who want to force these changes are unaware of reality.

I'm sure some smart people will get involved and figure out a way to make it all happen. I just
hope they do not rush into it by producing engines and systems that wind up costing more than
than the savings provided by lower fuel consumption.

Either way, consumers will be paying the cost of it all becuase ultimately shipping costs will go up.
Either by way of higher fuel prices or by the shipper's requirement to buy new, upgrade, or retrofit
their trucks.

It is a controversial issue indeed, as our president "went green" long time ago with his buddy al gore, and they fight together against "global warming". And almost all politicians are in bed with the "ol' boys" that designed this abomination. I seriously doubt epa policies will loosen up, this would mean admitting global warming as being a scam. Instead of lobbying more for biodiesel, the Push is to still use oil, which is pretty much the commodity that's everywhere and in everything we use these days. The catch is to make consumers spend more money for technologies that still pollute more (batteries for electric cars, etc) to be fabricated, but the generated income will reach the "right" pockets. In short, this is more politics, lol.

We'll see smaller and smaller less capable trucks as a result to meet some arbitrary economy standard. In the future a full size heavy duty truck will be a truck the size of a Ford Ranger with a hybird 3 cylinder turbo engine with a whopping 3,000 lb tow capacity.

With doubling of CAFE by Obummer, a "smart" car will be considered a full size luxury sedan.

While I do agree the EPA isn't playing with a full deck..too much political agenda instead of
good clean environment policicies..

but lets take a step back..
how's the air in LA..like in China? or Iran?
or Mexico city?
so may be the EPA has helped in the past..but now they're power hungry/control hungry..
time to reign them in..like all gov't..let hope this can be done like no other revolution in history..

That's been the problem with government since time began. It's like drinking; If a shot or two is good then slugging down the whole bottle must be better, right?

Except it ain't... :?
