Post subject:  Where can you find a turbo boost actuator for sale?

After trying the suggestions to burn the crap out of my turbo vanes, it didn't seem to help. I removed the vacuum hose on the actuator and put a vacuum pump on it...and the rod didn't move. Not convinced totally that was my problem, I grabbed a new piece of hose and put it on the diaphragm and sucked...it was like sucking on a straw in an empty glass. Still not convinced totally, I to a pair of bent needle nose pliers and was able to move the rod freely with just a little resistance. I'm quite sure the diaphragm in the actuator has a hole or tear in it. The problem is, a dodge dealer wants to sell you the whole turbo for stupid $20 diaphragm. They don't show it as a separate part. After a little digging, my local parts guy @ car quest found someone in AZ that can get the diaphragm, from Europe, for $400 plus $90 freight...in two weeks. Really? $400 for a stupid little diaphragm? Does anyone know where a person can get this vacuum operated diaphragm for the turbo locally...for less? This seems way more complicated than it has to be! Thanks for your help...I'm finding this board to be awesome, with a wealth of knowledge for helping out my CRD!!!

thanks jlgail, but I couldn't find just the boost actuator diaphragm on that website, it just shows the whole turbo with it attached and no breakdown. This is also what the dealer had when I went there...no breakdown of parts for the turbo, it's just a part of it.

I had the same problem as you with stuck vanes when I first bought my jeep. If they are really as stuck as mine was, you have to pull the turbo off to do it. I pulled it, put up on the bench and used 2 cans of PB blaster to finally work it loose. Spray the PB blaster into the turbo an try and let it soak down into the vanes. Work the linkage back and forth a little at a time, spray more, and repeat, over and over until it works loose. Then clean it up and dry it before reinstalling. Make sure you have the gaskets, and pour a little oil into the oil passage to make sure the bearings are lubed up before you put it back on and start it. You don't want to dry run the bearings... Its a pain in the booty, but you may be able to salvage it. I have put 10,000 miles on mine since I did it. Once it is free, the linkage only moves about 1/2 inch or so...

I know you can clean your turbo with oven cleaner to get the vanes moving again.

But if you are absolutely certain that your vanes are free to move, and you do have a diaphragm leak, I can send you the actuator from my old turbo.

thanks again jlgail, but my problem is on top of the turbo, the diaphragm that runs the variable vanes. 65corvair actually has a pic shown above. I have good vacuum at the solenoid where you show (15 lbs of vacuum), I can't get anything but air when I suck on a hose hooked to the diaphragm. Again, thanks for you help! 65Corvair, that is exactly what I'm looking for...I'll send you an email as I'm not sure if I'm smart enough to PM you. Thanks.
