Well....finally got around to pulling the leaky airbox to turbo hose. Turns out the clamp on the front of the turbo was loose. The hose wasn't too bad at all...it seems to hold up better than the turbo to intercooler hose (unless PO replaced it already). At any rate, I decided to go ahead and replace it as planned, and start a spare parts box with the old one. What a pain in the arse to get the end of the new hose over the turbo inlet. Man, there is no room to get your hands down there. Wanted to take out the airbox, but searched high and low for a screw and came up empty. In the end, I finally got it on reasonably well. I'll just have to keep an eye on it. Man, that sucked!! Well, two hoses replaced...one to go (Samco on the driver's side).

Oh yeah...I noticed that the crank case ventilation hose was weeping pretty good (at the puck on top), so I took it to Advance Auto Parts and found a pre-formed Dayco hose that was close enough to substitute. The guy behind the counter said it would be okay for CCV, but I wonder if the oil will eventually eat it up....any thoughts?? I really hate learning as I go on this truck...it makes me nervous. Thank God I didn't spend a fortune on my CRD....maybe I'll cry a little less if I do something stupid and blow the thing up (nervous laugh)....

As long as your new hose is designed for oil, it will be fine. If you really, really can't find oil hose, you can go with fuel hose. Do not put air/heater hose in there since it won't resist, oil will eat it and in one year it will look like a sponge and leak all over making a mess. You can always go with samco, from samcousa.com, and make your own shape by using their elbows and hoses, with your connectors. Regarding airbox to turbo, a little oil on the end of the hose that goes to turbo will make your job easier, using this approach I replaced it in the parking lot while I was working in Alabama. The hose must go all way till it touches the turbo (if memory serves me right), pretty much make sure that the hose clamp squeezes with the whole width on the straight part and not on the tip, on both hose and turbo.

Oh, btw, be happy you're willing to learn, you'll do a much better job than the dealer muppets...

That was the first repair I did on the CRD right after I bought it. It was barely even connected due to the oil eating it up.

It is easier to remove the hose if you remove the air box first, as it allows you to fish your right arm in there.
The air box is held with three plastic posts pushed into rubber grommets, that hold amazingly tight.
No screws.
Just wiggle it around, then give it a yank.

Fit:
1. at turbo end it may go flush with the turbo or there may be a slight gap; say 1/8-3/16". No matter as that end is on a metal fitting. Just make sure the clamp is over the "hump" at the outside end of the fitting before tightening it down.
2. at air box end the hose MUST touch or almost touch the MAF sensor and the clamp should be tightened snug but not Godzilla lest you crush the airbox outlet, been there done that. If it's hard to get on a little lube helps; vasoline/oil/silicone spray/whatever

I was thinking he could get some oil from the dipstick, only few drops are enough.

I guess I'll have to keep an eye on the CCV hose...I'm pretty sure it's run o' the mill heater hose... :roll:

Hydraulic or fuel transfer hose would work.
