I have had a problem for several months now where the ABS and Brake light will randomly pop on while I'm driving. It think it's safe to say that it comes on EVERY time I drive now. I had my rear calipers, pads, and rotors replaced two weeks ago due to a sticking caliper, and they told me that they could investigate the issue of the brake lights if I wanted to bring it back. I know that the investigation is going to be expensive though, so I thought that I would see if there is a common problem here.

Frankly I'm fine with the fact that the lights pop on and off, but NOW there are occasions BEFORE the lights pop on when the anti-lock brakes will activate on dry pavement. It's weird. There is no reason for the wheel sensors to detect slippage during a normal dry pavement stop. The ABS system is activated though, and my concern is that the brakes may fail all together due to a computer or sensor problem.

Do you guys have any advice? Are we talking a lose wire? A fried sensor that I could replace myself? I don't want to compromise safety, but I do want a fix.

Thanks for the help.

There's an issue with the rear sensor being dirty or possibly having some chafed wires under the rear seat on 2005's. Do you notice your odometer stop working while the light is on?

I just started getting the same problem, brake/abs lights and odometer stops. Where is this relay located?

I don't think it's a relay - probably inside the computer. But the problem is most likely the sensor. When the computer doesn't get a signal, I guess it doesn't record miles.

I replaced my rear sensor, and 05 Inferno is right - it's cheap and easy. I also bought an ODBII ABS/SRS reader that works on the Jeep braking system. I figured it would be cheaper than having the dealer diagnose it one time.

But make sure you get the right code reader - only certain ones work on certain vehicles. I got the OTC brand, Model 9450, but I think that only works on the '06 Liberty. If you call the company, they can tell you which one will work. 800-533-6127

BTW, if anyone in my area needs to borrow it, just let me know.

'06 has one sensor at each rear wheel. Easy to remove, and I think cheaper than the '05, maybe $10.
