Post subject:  Jeep cherokee 2.5 crd - Tyres

Hi Guys,
I have been doing some research on tyres and I'm looking to purchase x4 steels wheels for my 2003 Jeep Cherokee.

Firstly I have stock suspension and stock 235/70/R16 Alloy Wheels with road tyres. From what I understand the max tyre I can take all stock is 245/70/R16. (stud pattern 5x114.3mm (5.45").

I have seen some tyres for sale here in the UK, - http://www.4x4tyres.co.uk/jeep/cherokee ... 4_320.html

There are a number of them on the sites, 16x7 Offset +30, 15x10 Offset -32, 16x8 Offset +30 and all with the 5.45" stud pattern.

I have done as much research as possible and did try not to write a post as I appreciate that this has probably been talked about before, but I really do need some help.

I would quite like to use the largest wheel possible with my stock Cherokee (one that functions also) and have the wheels come out proud of the wheel arch slightly.

Could anybody help point me in the right direction? I was thinking some 245/70/R16 BFG's on 16x8 Offset +30 Steels although Offset +30 seems quite standardized and would not be proud of the wheel arch?

Thanks for reading,

Hi and Welcome to Lost,
I suggest you stick with 245/70R16 on original rims. Yes they will run a bit (not much a full lock) against the front sway bar. Other option is to go 225/75R16 a bit taller but narrow with a bit of rubbing on sway bar and pinch weld.
You will need a lift to fit taller tyres and if you want an off set rim you don't get may option here in the UK.

Appreciate the reply. 245/70R16 or 225/75R16 it is then, will see whats knocking about.

I have been looking into lift kits and they are very confusing. Some are actual springs and struts, others are rubber or metal buffers??

Is it just that different companies have different takes on lifting suspension?

Many thanks!

Full spring kits are preferred -I like OME http://www.boulderbars.com/frankenlift_crd.htm

you should have some distributors in UK - anyone that sells ARB

they're a little more expensive but ride better- last longer.

the Daystar type kit with a spacer under the bottom of the spring - does work for a while but makes the spring sag faster (causes the spring to hit metal to metal easier)

The spacer on top of the shock

has been know to kill the front shocks in a single weekend.

it moves the bumpstop away from the A arm and the shock stops on the shock internals.
