This P0299 code has been driving me nuts!!
After checking CAC (repaired leaks), Pressure tested the hoses, removed the EGR, ACV and associated piping, Installed Weeks Intake elbow kit, Adjusted the GDE tune this code kept coming back. I could do an Italian Tune Up and after the third run the code would not reappear and engine would run great. Then after cooling down and starting up the code would reappear and run like crap. Black smoke, no power, and limp mode....This got me thinking about that darn Catalytic soot catcher. Sure as hell it was clogged up and preventing the turbo from doing its thing. I removed the 2 bolts connecting the Cat to the muffler and cleaned it with a hammer drill, thin wall pipe and a shop vac. Clean as a whistle now. Buttoned everything back together and a huge cloud of black soot exited on start-up and I could feel the engine breathing much easier. At last P0299 solved....

 ... :pepper:

This should be added to the check list for P0299 trouble shooting guide because there is no cel code for a clogged up Cat!

Cheers.......

That is the first clogged cat on a CRD that I have heard about (there are probably others...). How many miles? What fuel have you been running (pump diesel, bio, heating oil, off-road, etc.)? I am wondering if it is a fuel quality issue or if it has been running rich for a while. I have seen several CRD's with well over 200K, and a few over 300K, and the cat still works (you can smell the difference...). My personal one is at 105K roughly, and it is still working. It has seen lots of different fuels (pump diesel, bio, etc.)

Been Running Regular diesel 100% of the time. My wife use to commute with the Liberty 125 miles per day and never had many issues till I started running it with a 10 mi commute. warms up , shuts down, warms up, shuts down. Been having the p0299 code for the past year (150,000 MI) and have tried and tested everything related to the intake. Never gave post turbo a thought. I pressure tested the Intercooler about 2 years ago and it held 25 pounds of charge with cac hoses attached. Recent test had a big hole in the top right corner. JB weld seems to have fixed that. Whenever I can its WOT to keep her running good. Still shooting for the 300M mark...
