So I am about to pull the trigger on a transmission from a 09 1500. When I get it, besides the transgo kit, what other upgrades would be a good idea to perform? |

09 1500 what? This is a JEEP KJ 4-dr SUV forum, maybe 1/4-ton - no half-ton trucks, here.................... |

I believe the 09 ram 1500 shares the 545rfe |

If it has much mileage on it, be sure and replace the front pump housing assembly while you got it out, there are wear items in it that wear out in time and leak by causing problems... |

Many DCJ products use the X45RLE 4-thru-6spd transmission in many flavors, up to and including the big 6-spd version in the DODGE CUMMINS CRD RAM 2500\3500 trucks - 2.8L CRD VM bellhousing pattern is nowhere near any other pattern butcept a 'nuther 2.8L CRD VM engine, and corresponding X45RLE transmission - word up, dudes...................... Also, the TCM is whut makes it a 4-5-6-speed unit. Howsomever..........there may be some confusion due to the recent twitter vis a vis the 1500 RAM 5.7L HEMI TC being desirably inter-changeable with the KJ Torqueless Convertor, or slush-vertor - if so, go fer it, dude - less, of course, the 545RLE transmission assembly........................... |

I'm pretty sure all 545rfe transmission bell housings are all the same. In fact the 2.8 CRD engine uses an adaptor plate for the transmission to bolt to. |

I have a new stock TC that I will be using. I am 100% sure a 545rfe from an 09 will work fine. They will work all the way up to 11'. 12' is when they redesigned the transmission calling it a 65rfe and adding a 6th gear. http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/545RFE.html "(The 545RFE has been used with numerous engines, including the 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8, 5.7 V8, and VM 2.8 diesel). " The transmission has 38k on it and I would imagine the internals should be fine. I will install a trans-go kit along with the PML deep pan I have. |

Ok - after doing some intense comparative pictorial research back thru ought 7 (when I began posting upgrades and modifications to my KJ CRD), it does appear that the 3.7, 4.7, and 5.7 bellhousing flange bolt-pattern is similar to the 2.8L CRD KJ engine pattern - of those, only the 5.7L TC is the desired unit for upgrade - the V-series gasoline engines are variously used in Liberty, Grand Cherokee, Dakota, and 1500 RAM pickups - the 2.8L CRD engine does use an adaptor plate, just as does the 5.9L CUMMINS engines, primarily because the Diesel blocks are cast without a bellhousing flange - the 545RFE is a 6-speed transmission, where 2nd gear has two ranges, one for up-shifting and t'other for down-shifting - further, the '06-up RAM CUMMINS 68RFE 6-speed has a much larger bellhousing to accept the huge 13" TC - all shafts, clutches and gears are correspondingly increased in size, none of which will fit any of the earlier transmissions - like the CRD KJ it also requires a separate TCM which interfaces with the separate ECM - they all utilize two gear-driven oil pumps, one full-time for light loading, with the second pump valved-in for heavy loading |
