I was recently told that removing the EGR from my CRD would result in much improved mpg (35 or so). A forum search on this topic only indicated that people were trying to gauge the improvement. Has anything been determined at this point? thanks. g |

Turning off egr is good for about 1 mpg on average on the KJ CRD. |

I did the ORM and saw my average jump from 18mpg to 22mpg with a about a 50/50 split city and freeway. |

I did the ORM on and off for almost 6 years and saw nothing, no MPG gain, no reduced soot in oil and no change in responsiveness. In the absence of any hard evidence I was always very skeptical of whether it actually did anything other than raise a fault condition. Your gain is suspiciously high. Looking at your numbers and 50/50 driving pattern I'd suggest that you may have gone from an abnormally low mpg to something more typical. I'd hazard a guess that disconnecting the MAF has affected it in some other way to get back that lost mpg rather than it giving you extra as a side effect of "disabling" the EGR. If something seems too good to be true then it probably is. |

May be also several other factors such as fuel quality, parts replaced (especially dragging calipers), etc, I drove with maf unplugged for months and I couldn't rule any gain. The only improvement I saw in mileage was after gde tune, inflating tires to 40-45psi and installing the efan. Gde tune got me 2+mpg, tires another 1-2 mpg and efan 1 mpg city and 2.5-3 mpg highway at 70-ish, more than that will drop severely due to "jeep aerodynamics", regardless of efan or viscous. |

I did clean my MAP sensor before doing the ORM. My numbers are from the average mpg readout after filling up and resetting each time. The ONLY other difference, driving in Washington State vs Oregon. |

I just did top end job and elbow kit at 136000mi. My mileage had beef going down last couple years. The intake manifold above the FCV was partially plugged up with black tarry stuff from EGR gases. Cleaned manifold and installed Elbow kit, huge improvement in power and mileage increased solid 4mpg (elbow kit plus clean manifold). |

I put the Sasquatch Elbow on my CRD and got about 1 mpg better. My major improvement has been noticed every time I start it when it's cold. Strong crisp starts every time. I love it. Better power response when rolling down the road too. |
