I have been having issues with limp mode and can't determine the cause, neither can my mechanic or my Dealership. As of right now I think that I have rocker damage but can't tell if I'm hearing things as it seems somewhat faint. The link below is a video I shot after I took the cover to the timing belt off. Let me know if you are hearing it. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10 ... 6285501865 Also, when I took the timing cover off my tensioner was not properly tensioned, I have corrected that before I started it up and checked that everything was still in time and after 3 rotations all the marks line up as I original had when I did the timing belt Questions to the experts: Could the tensioner with slack cause the engine to go in to limp mode and damage the rockers? Can it really be correctly timed since there was slack in the tensioner? Just for info Limp mode has no CEL and is very random? |

double check timing - pin both cams and flywheel , good luck.. hope no internal damage, |

IDK. That engine sounds pretty normal to me. The tensioner having moved out of adjustment is kinda normal. It's just self adjusting to normal belt stretch and wear. Limp mode. Have you corrected all the fuel filter and air-in-fuel problems? Have you scanned for codes? Transmission problems can cause limp mode too. Typically, bent or worn rockers cause poor running, lack of power, and black smoke out exhaust. No codes and no limp mode. |

It sounds fine. Just sounds like you had it apart for a while when you were doing your work and some air got into the system. It will also make a metallic ping sound when air is still in the system and coming up to pressure. |

do you have excessive smoke on tail pipe ? or engine has stumble at idle , possibly injector sticking (over fuel) it usually sound like metalic noise .. ( fuel knock) ? i had the sam scenario but lots of smoke and i thought it was a broken rocker, it actually turned out to be sticking fuel injector. |

good idea is to remove exhaust manifold heat shield and use heat gun to measure exhaust temp , look for hottest cylinder |

Look up "MAF test" on this site. You will find MAF values to check at idle. If they are low, you have a rocker problem. (It is very easy and quick to do.) DOC |

All right Well Everything was still in time. I put the tensioner back to where it should be and put everything back together. I also went and bought a tube to bypass the ccv out of the air inlet. While doing this the rebuilt turbo had a screw that was backing out on the back of the inlet and I tighten that up. Two days of driving and so far it is running great Flash/Hexus-Air has been in the fuel has already been correct. Rankom-no execessive smoke Doc--I got the MAF reading but I could not find the Values that you mentioned after searching for a good while. I'll post and hopfully someone has them handing. It would be great to have these in the tech section, I searched in there as well. But from what I read I'm thinking I'm ok??? MAF: 18.8 to 19.2 g/s RPM: 758-762 Coolant @ 167F / Intake Air @ 96.8f / Ambient Air @ 55F Also with the ccv bypass I have it going straight to the ground, no provent, however today after driving an hour home i noticed it was putting out a bit of smoke, is this normal? |

If I remember correctly those are really good MAF readings. A bit of smoke from the CCV is normal. |

Yes, those are good maf values, I think GDE said 18.2 is when engine is new at sea level. |

Tuf-Mud with a GDE tune EGR function is minimal so I'm not sure you will get much benefit from a CCV bypass to ground. More importantly with that type of bypass you run the risk of the hose end freezing up in winter which boost the crankcase internal pressure and has been known to blow out the rear main seal which is a real chore to replace. I'd recommend either restoring the normal CCV routing or getting a Provent. |

Do your engine a favor and get a ProVent! EHM is NOT a good option and there are reasons why. Much discussion on this forum about this very subject! Read this and you will understand: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=80491&hilit There are also some free tunes available on this forum if you want to do it yourself and save $$$ |

I have noticed the warnings on the site about doing EHM but I'm in western Oregon and it does not freeze very often here and at least not until next year at this point. I will have it put together correctly before then I assure you, thanks for the warnings. I already had the GDE ECOTune but not the tool to flash it back to stock. From what I've read it is very important to flash the ECU back to Stock before trying to Flash in one of the Site Tunes that have been made. I'm correct in this thinking, right? I do already have the OBD2 computer plug(I think the mpv13.2) that everyone has been mention, I believe I still need to download another program though to be able to correctly flash the system if I wanted to, I still need oto read more about it though to get the whole jist of it. |

Uh if you already have the GDE EcoTune installed on your KJ CRD why on earth would you want to flash it back to stock and install a different tune? I can understand that if you did NOT have a tune wanting to try one of the freebe tunes but none of them have all the benefits of the GDE tune you already have. |

I don't want to get rid of the GDE Tune, Thats not what I meant. I have the cable to do the self tune and I have been grazing through the tunes that Everyone has been using and been thinking about maybe a hot tune. I'm bit wary of that though as I don't understand the programming yet. I will more then likley upgrade to a hot tune in the future whether that be a GDE or one of the Tunes on the Site I haven't decided. I'm leaning torwards GDE HotTune so I don't f*#k up the ECU though. |

Getting an additional gde tune I think would cost only 50 or 100? Not sure but won't be as much as buying one first time. |

No other tune acheives the level of combustion efficiency that GDE does. DOC |
