Today I found this hose https://scontent-sjc.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xta1/v/t1.0-9/10931188_832049833499007_5356149235684221388_n.jpg?oh=783595772aa15f87bf45e163532feaa0&oe=559FFFAD hanging down. I looked and looked to see where it came from but to no success. I even looked at the wife's CRD and could not find it. Does anyone know what it is to? Thanks, |

Transmission breather hose. It should be tied up somewhere near your transmission dipstick. |

Yeah it vents the transfer case. Sorry, couldn't resist! Seriously though just zip tie it up as high as you can in a safe location. Some people buy more hose and extend them up high near the firewall if they expect to ford deep water. |

well - considering that it is a Jeep - and the vents help if you ford deeper water factory is limited to ~ 18" so several folks have extended their vents the KJ version has lost the pix http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=7229 the KK version still has good info http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=104&t=44164 |

On my 05 CRD I simply cut the OEM vent hose and added a "Tee" with clamps and plumbed the transmission vent into the OEM transfer case hose and then added some additional hose on the end in the engine compartment and terminated it up just behind the battery. Figured I would never get into deeper water than the bottom of the battery level. Do not know why the transmission did not have a long vent hose from the factory. A simple and worthwhile mod in my opinion....

There are better and safer ways to cross rivers like that. They are usually called BRIDGES.

Based on the location of the intake on the airbox - behind and just below the bottom of the headlight - I'd say that he already HAS inhaled some water, the question is if it was enough to stall or hydrolock the motor. Scary. |
