December 2014 made the leap and got an 06 Sport, 68000 miles on the clock. All has been well, the more I drive the better I like this little tractor. As we know, all good things must come to an end. This weekend stopped got fuel, before I hit the street the Jeep started to buck and stumble. Engine starts, idles well. But put a load to it and will stumble and buck, to about 1700+ RPM then runs well again. I am thinking air in fuel, filter pump is soft well running. Pulse have found there is no access panel to the fuel tank. TB was changed just after purchase, more fun times. |

Although air-in-fuel is the most likely cause, there are a couple of things it could be. 1. priming the fuel filter and purging air has to be done with the engine off. Pump the primer until firm then open the bleeder to allow air to escape, then tighten the bleeder screw. Repeat until only fuel (no air bubbles) comes out of the bleeder. 2. unplug the wire connectors on the filter head. Inspect the connectors for any wetness from fuel. If you notice any fuel leaks there, you will need a new fuel filter assembly. 3. if your fuel filter assembly is purged of air and has no leaks and you are still having the problem, disconnect and firmly reconnect each wire connector on the injectors one at a time. I dont know exactly why this works but it worked for me and I've only had to do that once. 4. the transmission has a known drain back problem where after being parked for an extended period of time wont properly engage in drive. This will cause the engine to stall when proceeding forward and then coming to a stop. It should not occur after only stopping for fuel. The solution is to let it idle for a minute in neutral to get the fluid pumped up before driving. Its only happened to me a couple of times and only when being started first thing in the morning or after being parked all day at work. |

Thank you for the input, yep have the trans drain back, I did prime the filter when not running, when running the pump is soft. The fuel tank still has the stock lines in and out. And it has the updated fuel filter head. Will try the unplug/plug on the injectors. |

If it happened after stopping for fuel I would suspect contaminated fuel from station. Get a sample of it to keep if it turns out they gave you something other than 100% diesel. Does it have a strange non diesel smell? |

Thought about that denny but I think it would have gone farther that 100 feet before the bad fuel reached the engine?? Checked the injector plugs, changed out the fuel filter, Fuel in filter looks good. Starts well, idles well for a time 30+seconds then starts to stumble and white smoke. I am thinking lift pump time??? |

Could use a little info about the prim pump on the new style filter head. Once primed (no air coming out) should the prim button remain hard for some time. or go soft after a few seconds? And when running should it be hard or soft? |

lift pump is 1st on the to do list, also check injectors return flow cup test, you can make a home maid tool (4 cups) 4 clear hoses around a 1 ft length each. Fuel level should be almost the same in every cup. hope this helps. |
