I've got an annoying rattle/hum, sounds like it's coming from the front end, most pronounced while coasting and is dampened when under power or braking. Pretty much occurs at all speeds up to 50 mph (haven't exceeded that in a while). To me this rules out tire wear. I just checked serpentine pulleys and they all seem fine. Also just replaced the front diff mounts and the front drive shaft rear CV. On that note, does the thrown grease from that front drive shaft rear CV stink for a while?? I can't even drive with the drivers window open for the stink of something burning. Thanks folks.

Initial whine to final growl could be front diff side bearings or spider gears as assembly deteriorates into total failure
- hum to growl rattle could be front brake calipers\rotors
- rattle could be front brake calipers\pads
- rattle could be front stab bar bushings

Bad motor mounts will make a rattle noise.
A broken transmission dipstick tube will make a rattle noise (happened to me).

Stinky old grease?
Not likely unless it burning.
Maybe you got something dripping onto the exhaust?
Or maybe you picked up a piece of trash while driving and its stuck to the exhaust and burning? (that happened to me also and smells real bad)

Thanks for the input. I recently replaced the motor mounts so I'll rule that out.

I just got out from under it, removed the wheels and tapped and poked and prodded looking for any clues, also pulled the skids hoping that'll help direct where the noise is coming from and help rule things out. I'll check out your suggestions as I move along here.

Thanks again
