Post subject:  CRD PERFORMANCE CHIPS AND ACCESSORIES

I want a CRD really bad, but I havent been able to find any performance
chip information online. On my fathers Cummins, he got something so
that at any RPM he gets some boost, no matter if it is at idle or at 3k. On
the liberty, from what I understand, you have to be above 1200 rpm
before the turbo even kicks in. CRIPES!!

This is what I would like:
1. Performance Chip
2. Performance Air Intake
3. Performance Exhaust (good sound, and more power)
4. Something to tell the friggin waste-gate to stay open ALL THE TIME
5. Winshield wiper fluid Injection
6. 2" Lift

If any of you know how to get some of these things, and prices, I would
be so thankful. I mean is it bad to be the "BIGGEST AND BADEST"!! If
and when I buy one, I want to go in FULL BORE, not 1/2 @$$.

Thanks

Well, Beans, Welcome.

If you want to keep the waste gate open all the time you will have the slowest CRD on the road. :P :D

I think you should reconsider it and maybe you want it closed most of the time if not all the time or replace the existing turbo with a non waste gate unit for better boost, etc.
Performance boxes that are currently available.

Also Edge products is working on a module but they are not close enough to give a date

As for the exhaust there have been several threads on the list about what folks have done to date. There are no decent kit out for the CRD. I am going to put a 3"-3.5" system on mine from the turbo exhaust flange back eventually. First I want to get some decent instrumentation; EGT, Boost, Rail Press and do a base line dyno. Them I will install a decent intake filter and redyno. Then do the exhaust and dyno. I have been thinking about getting my performance module now and dyno with that also before and after. Why would anyone want to inject windshield washer fluid into their CRD??  :P Is this a modified for of water injection?

Again, Welcome.

Hi, thanks for the response. To answer your question, winshield wiper fluid is similar to water injection. I dont know all that much about it, but I have a friend that did it, and it gives him an extra 100hp and cools his exhaust temp when pulling on his Cummins diesel. It is pretty kewl stuff.

Thanks for the sites. I will look into them, and probably be ordering my CRD on sunday at the dealership.

If your going to be ordering a CRD, you're to late. The orders for this year closed the 19th of last month. Ran out of engines. The Unlimited Rubicon is also closed for the year I hear. Better scramble and find one at a dealer you like.

The orders were still open when I emailed jeepwarehouse.com on April 25th, and they are still open now at jeepwarehouse.com. Maybe your dealer is not interested in selling anything other than their own inventory.

The CRD is still available for ordering as per Dodge official website, Sprinter is not and hasn't been for some months now.

We just put our 3” cat back prototype on the road last Thursday. Initial results on our system vs. a 2.5” performance system are very positive. Better and quieter sound and more pull mid to high rpm range. The system is bolt on, mandrel bent, has excellent ground clearance and uses a factory style flange for a clean and perfect fit. A “cat included” system will eventually be available.

Basically, windshield washer fluid contains methanol - you're injecting part water and part methanol - cheap way of getting alcohol injection. Water cools the intake air and lowers exhaust temps, the methanol is giving the engine extra fuel and that extra 100 hp. But you'd better stick to the cheap fluid that is nothing but water and methanol, no way of telling what extra chemicals some brand such as RainX might have included and what it would do to your engine or cat.

I have seen some discussion over the years on using straight water. According to some, on older cars where you can adjust the fuel/air mixture and no 02 sensors to foul things up, using water injection allowed you to lean out the mixture for better fuel economy, past the point that would normally be feasible, and the water flashing off kept the cylinder temps down such that you didn't burn up your valves.

Water injection was/is common on diesels and even was used on one or two GM gas cars in 60's & 70's, the one I remember is the Olds Cutlas. I have a friend with it on his '96 PowerSmoke and says he is going to do it to his TDI Passat. He uses the injection system with just plain water for cooling EGT's when towing, he says he has added ethanol in winter to prevent freezing and increase power lost from winter fuel. He is retired diesel tech from Deer, and does like turning a wrench.

Add me to the "VERY INTERESTED" club for the 3" exhaust (including the cat).

Are we still talking $900 range for cat-back?

Definitely less than $900 for the cat back!

And Guys were bitching when I said 3"-3.5" from the turbo flage back including the hi flow CAT and all stainless. Sheesh!!

I didn't witch, I just said it wasn't worth the money to do a 3" or 3.5" if you were just using it like a soccer mom type vehicle. I think there is a lot of the CRD's that fall into that catagory, my wife's CRD does. The only off road experience her CRD has had is to drive it into back yard to make room for guest to park. I know, I know what a waste, but sometimes it's hard to reason with a 55 year old woman.

That's not to say I might not spend some money for stuff on the rig that would never be needed or in some cases never used.

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! No, really I understand. Just getting a small dig in for a little levity and decension.

I could really give a hoot about performance mods, I'm more of a fuel economy and efficiency freak. Go figure, I also own a road-going battery-only electric pickup (and no, I was never qualified as battery charging electrician, but I was qualified diesel operator).

I'm only interested in performance mods if you can show me they do one or both of the following -

1 - over the long run, make the engine/drivetrain/vehicle last longer or reduce maintenance requirements.

2 - squeeze a few more miles out of a tank of fuel.

Hmmm, just had an idea. I have a Westach motor temp gauge on my electric, 100 to 400 F if I remember correctly, with thermistor sensor on a 6 ft lead. Can you say impromptu air intake temp gauge?

Does that mean you were an MM Nuc or Aux man?? Some performance mods do increase milage but most that do performance mods like the performance and push the pedal harder so milage goes down. :D

RetMil46, you shouldn't do performance mods! Or go over 720 RPMs.
