OK so i am a noob but have done quite a lot of maintenance on my own vehicles over the year including a few jeeps but this is my first diesel. i replaced the timing belt, water pump, serpentine, and all involved with said repairs then replaced the fuel/water filter and started my little beast and it ran but was belching white smoke. i have read many posts and other research that was telling me that there was air in the fuel system. it would idle just fine but in gear it would not accelerate at all and would not go past ten mph. it did this for a couple tries and inbetween i would recheck the filter and get a bit more air out. now it wont even start. any ideas. I also completed the weeks stage 1 and 2 ERG delete and am doing the GDE eco tune today hope fully i see some change after the retune but I'm not optimistic. Please help I'm stumped as of right now. |

If it's running as bad as you say, the check engine light should be on. You need to pull the codes to help diagnose the problem. Usually white smoke is related to a cold engine with bad glow plugs. But it's summertime now so that shouldn't be as much of a problem. |

ok so codes i am pulling are all refered to by my scanner as gray i have the following.P2295 P0091 P0670 P0489 P0047 P1251 P2141 P0560 B10b3 P0480 P0481. i know it is a long list and some refer to the erg and fcv that i have removed and replaced with the weeks 1 and 2. any ideas please. Unfortunately i am stuck i have tried everything i can think of to bleed the fuel system but i want to figure out what is wrong before i go dropping even more money and time to put in a lift pump. and does anyone know if the Crown lift pump work for this vehicle. |

OK so I found another post by kb65751. he mentioned the same codes for the ground faults. He said that it was discovered by a service tech that the main wiring harness where it passes behind the fuel filter mount had been stretched and had chafed to the point of grounding the circuits in question. I pulled the wiring harness out far enough to check for obvious shorts and I cant see anything telling. There are multiple points on several wires where there is brown discolouration but no bare wires. There are also multiple points in several wires where it appears to have been crimped or the wires were actually stuck together enough to swap a bit of colour when separated. please anyone with any ideas please let me know. |

With that long list of codes I would suspect : 1. Bad battery or low voltage problem 2. Wiring harness or loose connectors problem 3. A bad ECU Try charging the battery, clearing the codes, starting the engine, and see what codes pop up agajn. |

ok so i did the battery charge and restart check the wiring harness and connectionsall check out ok. the one thing i forgot to mention earlier was that i had cleaned the MAP sensor also before the choke and die does anyone think that a faulty MAP could throw these codes. with out one of its own. |

P0560- system voltage malfunction This is the root of the problem. None of the codes you listed are related to the MAP sensor. So, you charged the battery, cleared the codes, and started the engine. Does it run better now? Did any of the codes return? |

even after charging the battery (which was new) it wont start no fuel (no exhaust) i have since added a lift pump which after a bit of trial and error i have properly wired but i have no power to it when i turn the key on and it should pump for the fifteen or so seconds. this is all very anoying and driving me insane lol. any ideas oh and all of the codes stay there even after clearing. one or tweo will flash off but as soon as i try to start it they come right back. |

If the lift pump is not turning on when you turn the key on, its not wired correctly. |

flash7210 wrote: If the lift pump is not turning on when you turn the key on, its not wired correctly. That also assumes the correct fuse/relay was added to make it work in the first place, right? To the OP, once you've checked the wiring to ensure you got that right, make sure you have the proper (working) relay in the proper spot. With all the talk of electrical issues, I'm wondering if you have a larger problem that is preventing many smaller systems from functioning correctly. |

FYI, when I installed my in-tank carter lift pump a couple years back; I had to add or change no NO fuses or relays, everything was plug and play from the factory....and it worked perfectly as designed and stated by others...ever since...... |

What year is your CRD?...the wiring problem behind the fuel filter head only applies to LHD 2006 CRDs. Does the engine turn over but not fire? Have you checked all the fuses...inside the cabin and under the hood? Do you have the small red LED for the SKIM/SKREEM anti-theft system ON all the time or flashing at you? You have to be very careful when cleaning the MAP sensor as it is easily damaged! |

thanks for all the info guys but i have checked almost all of this the wiringharness checks out i did replace the battery before all this started. the dealership we purchased it from didnt know thier butt from thier elbow so they had a 650 CCA in there when from what i could see it needed a 800 CCA which i did put in. the wiring harness checks out just fine there were a few crimps but no shorts and a bit of insulation color swap where the wires were really pressed together. i have checked almost all of the harness and no issues. im just kind of at a loss because it was running ok before and nothing i have done should have caused this major failure. even when i did the timing belt i am positive that everything was put back together with all marks in place and the jeep ran after ,not well but it ran. it seems like when i did the weeks stage one and two EGR and FCV deletes it all went to hell. i have triple checked all wires and hoses that i could have even possibly touched or moved and all checks out. i am really hoping that the ecu isnt shot but i have no idea how to check that. i know the GDE code reader/flash tool still recognizes it but thats the only thing i know to check for the ecu. and for those that asked it is a 2006 liberty CRD. |

OK so I am assuming that the engine turns over but does not fire and there is no red LED on for the SKIM system. Have you replaced the cam and crank sensors? Swapped over the ASD relay? Checked all fuse..inside the cabin and under the hood? Put some clear hose in line with the fuel filter to see if there is air flowing along with the fuel. And finally...checked the belt timing is still good and no rockers are broken? |
