I am a previous CRD owner (back in 2010), and have found an '06 with 75k on it, so I'm thinking of taking the plunge again. It is at the Jeep dealership, but doesn't haven't any service records. Any pointers on specific questions I should ask or things I should look for? Thanks guys. |

I would ask them about the timing belt first and foremost. Hopefully its been changed, if not it should be asap. Id also look for pressure under the radiator cap when cold, or discoloration in the coolant. Mine had evidence of Kseal or some other head gasket "fix" in it, shiny copper flakes floating around in the coolant. Check your upper and lower BJ for ripped boots, same with the boomerang in the back. Inspect the fuel filter to see if its the updated version. Glow plugs and updated relay for 5V. Thats all I can think of for now |

Leak on rear main seal at transmission-engine junction, leaking turbo oil return pipe, take the turbo intake hose off and wiggle turbo fan by hand to check movement. |

I would read all the recent posts about blown engines and other constant problems: as well as the difficulty of getting parts. Make sure you want to go back down this road again. The more miles these vehicles have, the more problems they have. After selling mine almost three years ago I am not even considering one of the new Dodge trucks with the eco-diesel. VM / Chrysler / FIAT have left a bad taste in my mouth and I will not own another VM engine, ever. |

I happen to acquire a motor in very good condition at 91K miles since the car spent it's whole life in Texas. The rockers had no play when I replaced the rockers and ARP studs at 94K mile. No air-in-fuel issues for me either. I hope that my motor will survive as long as the diesel engine are supposed to! Keeping my finger crossed. I spent about $4000 to upgrade/fix everything that was bean counter engineering on this car so far. |

look for previous mods and whether or not f37 sticker in engine compartment . Also note rpm on startup it could possibly already have a GDE tune and this is the way to check for it. |

Turbo, rockers, engine tune and ARP's are essential if you want it to last. |
