Hi all, having issues with my CRD and hopefully someone has encountered similar before.
I recently did the timing belt, water pump and rockers, and after couple of days of normal driving, suddenly it won't start anymore (no crank)... but sometimes it starts just fine.
- When trying to start the egine, I hear the starter "click" once and stops.
- Battery or starter are not the issue.
- I can start the engine by turning the key to ignition and jumping pins 30 and 87 on the starter relay.
- Pin #85 gets solid ground and pin #86 gets battery voltage when turning key to start position.
- It starts normally (using the key) if I jump pin #85 of the starter relay to ground (with relay in place).
- I've switched the starter and ASD relays, and several fuses I've read in other posts, same results.
Any advice is highly appreciated. I plan to check the grounds to the PCM tomorrow, I may have left a lose ground on the intake or elsewhere... any thoughts where to look?
I have an export CRD, 06. It's called Cherokee in my country.
Thanks,
Andrés
Which country are you in? LHD or RHD?
Manual or Automatic.?
If it is an automatic, try starting it in "Neutral" instead of "Park"....the Interlock for the "Park" position may be faulty...... jumpering pin 85 to ground over rides the two interlocks.
LHD 2006 CRDs have a known problem of the harness being trapped behind the Fuel Filter Head Mounting Bracket..if you have a LHD then remove the bracket and check for harness damage in that area.
You can download the 2006 KJ Service Manual here...includes circuit diagrams...if you do not already have them!
