Spent the whole day completing the Weeks Kit Stage 1. As per my usual i completed it in about 200% of the time listed to do it. I have a tendency to clean and fiddle with things while I disassemble them. Anyway as I expected on my jeep, each and every nut, bolt and even plastic connectors fought to the death when trying to remove them. The kit instructions didn't lie when they said that the front inner bolt on the intake elbow is the most difficult. If it helps anyone else I ended up having to do tiny 1/16 turns with a short open end wrench the whole way. The process took forever and was really uncomfortable but it was a huge relief when it popped out. I also did my glow plugs while I had the elbow off and boy did they need it. All but one glow plug were broken or worn down quite a bit. Its weird that my jeep was seemingly undamaged in the process of the ceramic bits coming out, Or if it was damaged it wasn't enough for me to notice it yet. So on to the results. Before I did the kit I had pretty bad black smoke when I accelerated at any rate that exceeded grandpa. There are a variety of things that could cause that but I was thinking (hoping) that when I took my intake elbow off I'd have a glob of soot buildup with a dime size hole in the center for it to breath (easy fix eh?). Well no dice for me. When I got the elbow out I had perhaps 1/4" layer of soot/oil on the inside. I also had about a 1/2" tall glob sitting on the FCV. But I did notice that my FCV was sitting at somewhat of a 45 degree angle. When I fiddled with it it seemed to be stuck and I actually unstuck it while messing with it. Having finished the install and pieced the jeep back together I took it out for its test drive. Well I gave it the goose quite a few times and I can't seem to get the smoke like I used to (visible to me anyway). Also I've noticed the sound and behavior are quite a bit different. It seems to spool up a bit quicker and produce more of a growl. Also at a certain RPM range in gives off a sort of "grunt" that I'm not sure of. Some of this may be due to the computers reaction to the MAF sensor being unplugged as well. Anyone have any thoughts? Share your weeks kit experiences?

Thanks for reading, Briggs

One of the great mods available for our Jeep CRD's along with the in-tank pump and available computer re-flashes....in my humble opinion!

Now that you have the EGR blocked and FCV removed you can plug the MAF back in.
You should also load a tune into your ECM to help it forget about the EGR and FCV. Either buy the GDE tune or use one of the free DIY tunes.
In the mean time, if you can live with the CEL being on, everything will be just fine.

I can plug it back in even with only stage 1? I'm ok with the cel. It's been on since I owned it and likely won't go away. Originally it was for glow plugs and torque converter. Now tc and maf. I'll be picking up a suncoast tc when I'm down in fort Walton beach in May. Maybe one day it'll be without cel lol. I'm sorta wanting to wait on the flash because part of me wants a gde stage 2 turbo. Is that over the top? Lol

Yes, you can, as long as your EGR valve is unplugged.
