Can the old intake manifold gasket be reused or do they have to crush a little to seat properly? Also when taking the rockers apart from the lifters do you just snap them apart from the lifters or is there a proper way to do this? |

Yes, you can re use the intake manifold gasket. And the rockers and lash adjusters just snap apart. |

Thanks Flash, I have been taking the useable parts off my old engine and just waiting for all the new stuff to come in for the donor engine. So far I have found that on my old engine the Turbo has a very slight Axial & Radial play and the Rockers have slight play in both directions as well, the timing parts were all new on the old engine as I had replaced them just before it died. The donor engine turbo has a very slight turbo play in both directions as well but I think I will leave it, it looks as though it may have been replaced before, just judging by the rust difference on it and the amount of movement isn't that concerning. I'm doing the Weeks kits, rockers, Timing belt & idlers, motor mounts and turbo intake hose before I install it back into the Liberty as it is MUCH easier doing it while the engine sits on the shop floor. FYI, I bought this Jeep new on the showroom floor and used the recommended oil, proper service intervals and it was never abused, it had 163,000km's when she died (from a cracked engine block). |

Wow - A cracked engine block isn't a common failure mode, that was most likely a manufacturing flaw. I'm surprised you got that many miles from it before it showed itself. Good luck on the replacement though, sounds like you have a good plan in place. |

Thanks guy's, Yes I had it in for a window repair and asked them to check on the coolant leak, they found the cracked block then and said it looked like a casting defect. I pulled it out a couple years ago and I would tend to agree. |

Oh yeah, and last night when I pulled the injectors out of my old engine the #4 injector had no copper crush washer. That is a little disturbing as I have owned this Jeep since brand new and I know that the injectors have never been taken out so that leaves the factory not installing that crush washer. |

you'll most likely find the washer stuck down in the head. I had one that was extremely difficult to remove. It's worth buying the right size reamer to avoid damaging the head, if it's really stuck. They usually come out without too much trouble. PB blaster first... |

You can just run a wood screw down into the washer then use a pair of pliars to get it out, I had one that was problematic and that was my solution. |

You don't even need a wood screw. I used one of the valve cover long bolts and twisted it right into the center of the crush washer. Popped it right out. Interesting how it is always the #4 that is the most annoying one that keeps the crush washers or doesn't clean properly and doesn't seal well. Hardest one to get to. |
