Anyone run the OME HD lift and 245/75 16's without a top plate and clevis? My pinch welds are already pounded, and it sounds like I'd have to trim some plastic? Do you have to relocate the washer tank with 245/75's?

When I had no lift I was able to drive home with brand new 245-75-16 tires and minimal rubbing.
I then added a 1 inch clevis lift, pounded down the pinch weld, and still had some rubbing on the inner fender liner.

The OME springs should give you 1.5 inches of lift. You should be just fine. Trim plastic if needed.

Adding some 2 inch conduit spacers to the clevis is a cheap way to get more lift.

No OME HD will give 2.5" lift

You sure about that?
The JBA site says that the springs alone are only good for 1.5 inch lift.
Many others here have done OME springs + 0.25 inch top plate + 3/8 inch clevis spacer, for a grand total of 2.75 inches of lift. Which is pretty much the max you can do for a CRD before cutting the CV axles.

OME seem to run taller than advertised. I gained 2.5" on my CRD. On my Land Cruiser I gained a bit over 3" with the advertised 2.5" lift.

Yes I am sure, but you didnt say you had a CRD. Then you need 790 springs.

I have done more OME lifts on KJs/KKs than on three hands.

Theres even a CRD running around with OME 4.25" lift. Guess who got it that high.......

And thats without shaved CVs

The thing is, once mounted over the shock, the springs aren't any longer than the stock ones. Just a heck of a lot stiffer. So if you got more than 1.5 inches of lift with just springs, its because your old springs lost tension and started sagging.

I had to put in a top plates and clevis on my one 790s to get my front end to ride at the same height as the rear which is jba 2.5" springs with no extra isos.

Thanks for the ideas!

NO Duractracs in 245/70 16's :banghead:
Add the 235/85's are E rated only :banghead:

Are any of the 17" tires the same ride height, or 15"? Off to tire rack to look at specs again...

Any light aluminum wheels like our stock ones easy to get cheap in 15, or 17"?

Maybe I can squeeze chains in there with 245/75's on fairly flat wilderness roads where I usually drive in winter  I'm sure it would get ugly if I had to stuff a tire though. No more driving over down trees

Sorry not saying, you wont be able to grasp the concept.

But its funny how I have three KJs, all lifted over your 1.5" claim. Hmmmm. A 06 at 4.25", A 04 sitting at 2.25" lift and my 02 sitting at 4.5"-5.5" depending on how I feel that week and what Im test fitting.

And yes the springs are longer. I know what height the KJ comes from factory. I guarantee you that if your sagged below factory height, which is 19", so lets say 18". After a OME lift you will be around 21.25"-21.5" thats a 3.5" over your sagged suspension, but 2.5" over factory ride height.

Trust me, I have been doing this for a LONG time. And honestly, starting to get tired of the people who "think" they know, but really have no experience.

Yes. I get it.
Before the springs are installed they are longer than the stock springs.
But once installed with the insulators and top mount onto the shock, they are only as long as the shock will allow them to be.
The extended lengths of stock, Monroe, rancho, bilstien, and OME shocks are all pretty much the same. The springs don't majically make the shocks any longer.
It's the spring rate that makes the OME springs ride higher, providing lift.
Not their uninstalled length.

Ok.....so whats your point? OME 927 or 790s will provide a lift over 1.5".......you still haven't disproved that.

I dont care how it gets the lift, it still provides a lift over your claimed amount.

My 04 has OME 927 that have over 150k miles on them, threw them on the 04 and its sitting 21.25"......hmm if my math serves me right. That 2.25" over what the 04 came with (19"+2.25"=21.25). Of course I figured that out with old school math, not common core.

The point is, you assume that every KJ ever made has front springs that have sagged one or more inches.
That is not true.

I dont assume that. Im saying that OME HD WILL PROVIDE OVER A 1.5" LIFT EVEN AT FACTORY RIDE HEIGHT.

But what do I know......i have no clue on how to read a tape measure and havent lifted over 15 KJs myself. I have no idea what im talking about........im a idiot.

Im done here. Thanks. Have a nice day.

Looks like the only thing that makes sense with Duratracs and OME lift are the 245/75's.

So I guess this thread actually makes sense. Unless someone knows another AT tire that is good on ICE?

Anyone else have any opinions about the title of this thread? I didn't like the way my jeep rode with the top plate and clevis, but then again, I removed them, and replaced all of the bushings on the jeep at the same time...

From what Tom says the duratracs are good on ice. I dont have any ice to drive on so I run pretty aggressive mud terrains

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about the duratracs, especially since I can get them next winter, and order them with studs. I'll pull the studs out when the ice melts, and I'll even try to reinstall them the next winter, but probably fail at that.

I just hope they fit at full stuff...
