Having some issues with my CRD. It originally did not have cruise control. I had to replace the ECM this summer with one from a junkyard, but throughout the process i forgot to have GDE turn on cruise for me while they had . The notes i have saved from the JY say the other Jeep had cruise, but no way to verify now. After i swapped the ECM i added a complete steering wheel from a Limited KJ with cruise and radio buttons, and yes my CRD had all the cruise wiring in the column. Since then i've never been able to get cruise working, thought about taking it to a dealer but don't have time to deal with their BS. Radio buttons working fine.

Last week i got the Chrysler expansion pack for Autoenginuity so i can actually read all the codes on my Jeep. Turns out i have a P0589- Speed Control Switch #2 Signal Circuit Faults. Read into it some, seems like it could be a burnt out brake light or the brake light switch itsself. So i bought a new switch and replaced it tonight, and did find one brake light that wasn't work so i fixed it. Cleared the codes, but the P0589 was still there and listed as a current code. Dug around on AE and was able to check that the cruise switches were actually hooked up and working, which they are. Another odd thing i noticed was there was in the BCM section its showing a Vehicle Speed Fault-Fault Detected, shows it as a current code as well but doesn't give me any other info.

So what am i missing here thats causing the P0589? Everything aside from cruise is working perfectly fine, and the only other codes it has listed are for the MAF(not sure why), and its showing all 4 glow plugs failed which i'm tearing into next week.

I don't really know about Cruise Control but when you replaced the steering column did you make sure that the clock spring is correct ie. has all the switches feed into the harness.

I recently replaced the clock spring on my 2002 Export CRD Sport.
This does not have Cruise Control so the original clock spring did not have the extra tracks or connector pins to take switch signals down.

The new clock spring supplied has all the pins and tracks available.....just not being used in my Jeep.

Are you using the Service Manuals for the 2005 KJ available here?....most CRD owners download both the 2005 and the 2006 manuals as one each manual leaves out some information that the other one has!

Yes, mine had the correct clock spring and wiring harness already. I checked with my scantool and all the cruise buttons are working. Theres something else in the system that isn't happy.

I'd recommend contacting gde and see what they say. This is something few here may know as it's not such a common issue. I bet gde can provide some good ideas.

I agree with Thermorex that you should contact GDE. In the past you would need to add the vacuum unit to the throttle cable under the hood to get cruise to work and hook up the wiring harness to the added swithces. As this is a drive by wire unit there may be a circuit that needs to be turned on in the ECU to get the cruise to function. Currently all you have done is put the switches in place.
