Long story short - a guy brought to me his headache. Broke studs on exhaust manifold going into head, got those replaced. Installed manifold and new turbo. He brought it to me with all the parts laying in the passenger seat. I have never played with a 2.8L diesel before so I have been putting the puzzle of hoses back together. I got those figured out I am pretty sure but I am down to 1 connector that I cannot find where it plugs into. It is a long, flat white connector that comes through the firewall into the engine bay by the AC canister. I would attach a picture but I cant figure out how to do that. Can someone please help me figure out what this connector is so I can get this thing out of my hair! Thanks.

Smokinjoe, where are you located? In the US or overseas?

I just took a look at my 2.8 crd and cannot find a connector the you are describing on the right hand side of my Jeep. If you have an account at photobucket you can post photos.

How many wires on this flat, white connector?

I am located in the states. Unfortunately I do not have an account with photobucket. Do you have an email I can possibly send a picture for you to look at? I believe it has 2 wires on it and I am assuming this is essential in making the Jeep run correctly, it runs very rough right now.

If it's two wires, does it have a heat shielding type cover on the wires? It could be for the coolant level switch in the overflow reservoir.

If it's running rough, could be a laundry list. How many miles?

Read the noob guide.

Imgur is a very good place to upload the photos. It even gives you the forum code to paste.

Yes it does have the heat shielding cover over the wires. I cant find where it plugs in anywhere on the coolant reservoir though. Can't recall the miles off the top of my head but its got a lot on it. The guy told me the turbo went out on it so he got a new one and while taking the exhaust manifold off he broke a couple studs and didn't have the patience to get them out and put new in so he brought it to me. I have put everything back on it now and got all the wires (except this one) and hoses back on, it starts and runs but smokes quite a bit and runs rough and knocks a little.

It's not the plug that goes into the bottom of the coolant reservoir is it?

As far as it running rough it could be many of things. Sounds like this guy unloaded his headache. Could be bad timing, rockers or fuel related.

I didn't see a place that it plugged into on the reservoir, where is it located at? I have filled the reservoir and it doesn't leak anywhere. It sure looks like a level sensor to me but I just cant find where it goes!

Wouldn't coolant be leaking out of the reservoir if it were suppose to be plugged in? I know as of right now all that is hooked up to the reservoir is hoses, nothing electrical at all.

The coolant level sensor is in the bottom of the coolant tank.
The wire connector plugs into the sensor.

AH! Now that makes sense, when I get home I will have to look and see if I can find that sensor and get the connector plugged into it. Not that it will make it run any better but at least that mystery will be solved! It acts like it doesn't have much for boost pressure the way it is smoking and knocking, have to diagnose that next!

Prime the filter head properly until all the air is out. It may very well run better after that!

You could have some oil in the intercooler from the bad turbo. It will get sucked out after a few minutes of run time.

Did you hook up the vacuum line to the turbo actuator?

Next thing to check is the hoses that run from the turbo to the intercooler and from the intercooler to the intake. These are prone to get rips and tears and therefore you lose boost. If these are the orignal hoses, they might have ripped when you re-installed them,,, or they could have been ripped before the turbo replacement (original turbo might be ok......)

Might have air in the fuel lines. Open the screw on the fuel head and pump the primer..

If all this checks out, then you will have to go deeper. Could be rockers. Could be timing belt. Could be glow plug tip in cylinder. Ect....

There was oil everywhere on this thing so that could be the problem as well.

The vacuum line is hooked up to the actuator from the solenoid so that should be good.

The hoses I did not check though and they are original so they could possibly have rips in them or be loosing air somewhere on them.

I did not bleed any air off the fuel lines so I will give that a shot as well.

Thank you all so much for the help, this is going to make this a little less painful I am hoping!!
