I am attempting to change a failed intermediate axle and CV axle on my CRD.

The "c-clip" is stuck keeping the CV axle from separating from the intermediate axle. We've trying PB blaster and beating it apart and she will not come apart.
One mechanic said to put it back together w/o the clip allowing that the front end components will hold everything in place. The shaft slides into the axle housing w/o a hitch with the clip removed. with the clip installed it isn't budging a bit.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Tom

Sometimes I have to use two large pry bars to remove the CV axle. I'm not a fan of removing the C clip. It is there for a reason.

You got the intermediate axle out of the diff, but its still stuck in the CV? I never had an issue pulling it from the diff.

I spent quite a bit of time getting mine separated. Socked a couple of days in pbblaster and used a BF hammer. Clamped the im shaft in a vise and beat on a 2x4 laid on the cv housing. IM shaft survived only because I had a rubber collar holding it in the vise.

I've seen c clips from aftermarket axles be slightly larger than stock. I usually change them out to stock size.

Correct on the intermediate shaft staying connected to the CV axle. I couldn't get it inserted. The Jeep is operating w/o clips.
