Not sure I understand what marks you are referring to. Are you talking about the alignment of the tensioner? If so, then no. That is not tight enough. You need to bring the notched arm around (clockwise) until the center notch is at least even with (or past) the spring/casting web. Ideally you could twist it just a little farther clockwise. This shouldn't be hard. With the 10mm holding bolt loose, use a pin spanner (or make your own tool) to rotate the tensioner clockwise. It rotates easily. You should be able to twist it all the way clockwise (but don't over tension). Also, once you get the initial tension, rotate the engine a few times to insure the belt tension gets evenly distributed around the pulleys. You will undoubtedly see the tensioner 'loose some tension' and the arm rotate counterclockwise. That's normal - its just doing what its supposed to do and take up the slack. Just go back and retension it again. I actually started by engine up (with the front cover still off) and let it run for a minute (after rotating by hand a few times first to confirm everything felt good). Then adjusted the tensioner once last/final time before buttoning it up for good. |

In addition to the tensioner not being tight enough, it doesn't look like the crankshaft is in the right spot. Did you use the cam/crank pins to time everything? |

I agree. In the last picture the crankshaft does not appear to be in the correct position. But its also a very bad picture so its impossible to be sure. Whatever tool you used to set the tensioner looks like it broke off and damaged the tensioner. Looks like you will need a new tensioner. And be sure to check the bolt threads for the tensioner bolt. They have a tendancy to strip out. |

When it is properly timed, there will be no second guessing. It will be dead on with every mark and hole. |

If the Crank is properly pinned by the right tool, you don't need to mark it, because it won't move at all, not even a little. You don't even need to mark it. Your belt tension looks good, the cam sprocket bolts should be the last thing you tighten. I cannot tell from your video if it's in time, then again, I remove the whole front end when I do mine and it's easier to see what's going on, it doesn't appear that you did that, and are working in a limited space like Geordi likes to do. You smaller/skinnier guys can have that stuff, no thank you. Relax, walk away for a bit, breathe, then come look at it again. |
