So I have been lurking for quite some time and finally took the plunge and bought a new to me 05 crd. I noticed the jeep wasn't getting up to full temp so i decided to do the thermostat ( what a rip off ). anyways while i was on that side of the motor i thought it was a good time to check the turbo out. Much to my surprise what a compressor wheel that looks like it ate a Prius for breakfast. I have no idea what could have caused this. The factory airbox was still in place when i found this. |

Yikes! Either the turbo ate something or the vehicle was driven for a long time with no air filter. You should also inspect your boost hoses and probably clean out your intercooler. Whatever caused that likely sent glitter through your intake. Also, remove and clean your MAP sensor. Or just replace it. |

Also I ordered a new wicked wheel 2 cause it doesn't seem like anyone has been using them, I thought i would be the guinea pig for that. I will post results hopefully sometime next week. On a side note I was able to remove the turbo all from the top leaning on the right fender. I have read of people laying on the engine and from underneath. I did not find the need for this. I used a deep well 1/2 socket with a 6'' extension and was able to fish it through where the oil drain line is normally. Hope this helps someone trying to remove there turbo in the future. |

I have already replaced the CAC hoses with ones from idparts.com. Also i just had the timing belt done, they did a pressure check on the inter-cooler, along with a oil drain. They didn't report anything unusual. But is suppose that doesn't mean i shouldn't pull it and check it. I would hate to do this work only to have something else fail later. I'm just curious as to how long its been like this. I have never really been able to hear the turbo, being new to me i just thought that's how they are. what about all of you guys can you hear the turbo pretty regularly or is it quite. I am used to my 7.3 ford and 5.9 fummins swap, both have aftermarket turbos and are very loud. |

They're quiet, mostly due to their small size. I upgraded mine to a larger one and there's quite a noticeably louder noise difference. |

mooreja165 wrote: Also I ordered a new wicked wheel 2 ... Be sure you ordered the correct wheel. There are two types of compressor wheels. One that is secured with a nut on the end and the other where the wheel actually threads onto the shaft without a nut. In your picture, I do not see a nut on the end. |

They have apparently discontinued the threaded wheel because the quality control on those turbos were so poor. The version secured with the nut is still officially available but only fits Euro and replacement turbos according to Dieselsite. That said, I have seen the threaded one still for sale on 3rd party vendor sites and have been tempted to snag one but not sure if its worth the hassle. I already have a spare exhaust manifold and T25 flange adapter in my garage |

Yeah i spoke with the guy who is going to rebuild the turbo and he is going to be replacing the CHRA with a new one. He will replace it with the nut style for the new wheel. Also do a full balance with it installed. Also dieselsite.com is only selling the through bore style anymore, I have no idea why. I would suspect it would be easier to balance? |

I have a spare brand new that I got from idparts.com last year, it has the nut also. Like the one I have on the jeep. Wonder what can be wrong with using a nut... Balancing issues? |

The nut version is fine according to the Wicked Wheel folks and they still make that version. I guess its a lot better than the ones without. mooreja165 wrote: flash7210 wrote: mooreja165 wrote: Also I ordered a new wicked wheel 2 ... Be sure you ordered the correct wheel. The QC on the threaded wheel turbos was extremely poor, so rather than risk blowing peoples turbos they removed that version of the Wicked Wheel from the market. |

Quote: They have apparently discontinued the threaded wheel because the quality control on those turbos were so poor. I must be pretty lucky then. About 180,000 miles on my original threaded wheel turbo and its doing great. I've even turned up the boost to about 25-26 psi and its taken it like a champ. |

Thats a lot, like TorquePro wont even read that high a lot. Do you get smoke at all, and can you see your IAT's? |

Yes, my IAT is higher. Smoke only on rare occasion. Rarely noticable. |
