Post subject:  I can't get my engine to rise while changing motor mounts.

I replaced my motor mounts 40k miles ago, and now I'm getting a vibration again. 'm not even sure it's the mounts, but I think it's the passenger side. I can't remember what I did last time to get the engine to rise off of the old mount.

I drove the Jeep onto ramps, and I think that may be the problem. I have taken off the bolts on the passenger side, and I loosened the driver's side. I have a block of wood on the oil pan, and I have been gently jacking it up. The motor doesn't move a millimeter.

Is the Jeep supposed to be level? I am raising the whole suspension up, but I figured the engine would eventually move. It doesn't, but I didn't lift too hard. I don't want to break anything.

I printed the manual from the CRD tech section, and I tried to find the GDE link on their website, but the link is dead for their instructions.

With the Jeep on ramps, am I just pushing the Engine in the wrong direction? I'm thinking that the Jeep needed to be level in order for the engine to go straight up.

Any tips would be appreciated. Oh, and I see on the drive line thread that we are supposed to disconnect the fuel pressure solenoid on the rear of the fuel rail. I don't remember doing that before, but I was wondering if I need to just unplug it or if I need to unscrew the whole unit from the rear of the long silver tube. (That description is certainly showing how much I know about my fuel system)

The engine might be sticking a bit on the threads of the motor mount. Try lifting some, and then giving it a good wiggle, or get a buddy to to the engine wiggle while you lift. I don't see anything wrong with having it up on ramps, but you'll have to lift the engine quite a bit to unload the suspension. Definitely DO NOT unscrew the fuel pressure solenoid. If you do, you'll have to buy a whole new one. Just unplug it so the connector doesn't get damage from the back of the engine getting close to the firewall as you lift it.

Thanks for the quick reply Mike. I will unplug and try wiggling the engine.

I got it... And completely wasted my time and money. Crap! There's nothing wrong with the mount. It's perfect. Now I have no idea what's causing my drive line noise. All fluids are good. I would be thinking drive shaft, u joints, rear upper control arm ( which I was told was bad years about) but the Jeep makes the same strange noise while idling at lights. Torque converter? Transmission?

The engine runs great and responds well to acceleration. It just vibrates.

What about a hole in my exhaust? It's original with a lifetime on dirt roads,

Oh crap and it smells funny now when it's warming up in the garage or driveway.

Two items to check possibly causing your vibration/noise at idle; belt tensioner weak not keeping proper tension on serpentine belt or alternator pulley override clutch is bad causing belt to bounce?
Simple way to check both items is to remove serpentine belt and start engine and see if noise is gone, if so it is one one of the items above causing the noise....

Check your transmission dipstick tube.
I thought I had bad motor mounts due to a loud metallic vibration at idle and while in gear.
Turned out that my dipstick tube was broken and making all the noise.
