There are heaps of ways. I used maf cleaner then break cleaner with a soft toothbrush. Came up a treat. Otherwise buy a new one from idparts. Super cheap at 24 usd |

i use gasoline or diesel, but i refrain to use a tooth brush as it seems to me too hard for the very fragile sensor. Instead i use a soft paint brush. |

Use Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner, it is sensor safe. Use a toothpick to remove any large or stubborn pieces of gunk. Just be mindful of the little temperature sensor bulb sticking out and do not damage it, otherwise you will be buying a new MAP sensor. An alternate replacement MAP sensor is, GM part 55206797, Google it... I keep a spare just in case, since they are so cheap. Note: Since I removed the EGR & FCV systems; my MAP stays super clean and never needs cleaning anymore...

SirSam's NOOB guide (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=54207) has some decent images of the MAP location and a link to cleaning but the images on Darby's cleaning link don't work. It's pretty simple: 1. you need a 4mm allen key for the MAP hold down bolt. 2. lift the wiring harness out of the way, you may have to undo the odd nuts that hold the plastic harness cover down 3. undo the MAP hold down bolt - NOTE there is a tiny spring washer on that bolt that's easy to lose; try not to lose it but don't panic if you do as it's not critical. 4. lift the MAP up and disconnect wiring plug. 5. clean with any decent spray cleaner (I've used regular carb cleaner) but be careful as the crud you are removing from the MAP sensor is NASTY and will permanently stain any clothes it comes in contact with. 6. reinstall is the reverse - I'd recommend a drop of regular oil on the "O" ring to make it go in easily and a slight twisting motion as you push the MAP back into it's seat. Hold down bolt gets tightened just lightly snug. |

Non chlorinated brake cleaner is also good. |
