Hi I was looking at a o5 jeep crd and had some questions.

1. I was reading about the tc problems and was wondering if they were fixed by the recall or if a tranny and engine tune from green diesel would be Better ?

2. What would I want to look for if I go look at it?

3. What would be the signs of a bad tc /tranny?

4. It has 250k miles on it. How long do there engines run?

250k miles is a lot. How much are they asking?

First thing is timing belt. Needs to be replaced every 100k miles.

Next, test drive it. Does it have low power or black smoke out the exhaust?
Could be a turbo problem or worn out rockers.

Hard starting and rough running could mean fuel system problems. Look for upgraded fuel filter assembly.

A stock torque converter usually has no problems when used with a stock engine tune. If you plan to use a Hot tune you will need a upgraded TC.

And then there are all the usual Jeep items...
Ball joints
U joints
Axle bearings
Etc

They want 4000 for it.
Timing belt ,idler pulleys, water pump replaced around 200k.
I have not took it for a test drive yet.
I was looking at a tune for the tranny and engine for gas economy or towing.

My experience is that any tune (accept the one that ONLY deletes the EGR CEL's) will require an upgraded TC, but you can drive around it for years of light duty, and from what some say, they didn't have any shudder with the stock TC and an Eco tune, but I sure did. It seems like some TC's are better than others, as I installed a new Hemi TC recently, and I still have light shudder under heavy acceleration around peak torque, but anti shudder additive may have cured it.

Not a bad way to go if you can swap the TC yourself. If you have to pay for all that labor it gets expensive. Updated pump is good insurance if it turns out that it doesn't already have one.
