Finally after 187000 miles of living without a Lift Pump and with Ceramic Glow Plugs...I made the jump. No more non-starting or running rough problems...no more DTCs caused by Glow Plug failures...no more thinking about ceramic GPs breaking off and killing another engine (happened at 8800 miles...warranty replaced). Did the Sasquatch Weeks Kits 1 & 2 to clean up the engine bay a bit and make GP changes a breeze later. Got it inspected this morning with no problem. |

bushtit wrote: What is the deal with the Lift Pump? What does it do, Absolute best method to prevent any air from getting into the fuel system is to install the in-tank lift pump mod. There are quite a few threads on this forum as to how to do it! Once done, ANY leak anywhere in the system will be evident very quickly as the lift pump puts the entire system from the top of the tank to the back of the CP3 pump under positive pressure. Unless you find a fuel leak with the lift pump installed, there is no need to replace any of the hoses or the o'ring fittings as they are designed to seal with a positive pressure, NOT vacuum. The fittings do seal very well under pressure, there are untold hundreds of thousands of them in service today on gassers for which they were designed. If Chrysler had not cheaped out on the CRD and installed the lift pump as original equipment, there would be no problems with air infusion into the fuel.... A good "how-to" install guide: http://www.auerbach.ca/kj/lift_pump/ Weeks offers a complete plug and play kit: http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=84374 |

Of course my original fuel filter head leaks at the heater plug...just one more thing to tackle. I guess 187,000 plus...I can't cry about it... Need to look at any updated fuel head or aftermarket options... |
