I ran my CRD on freeway in 102 degree temps. Lower hose 168 Upper hose 200 and change. Near coolant tank one hoses 220 maybe one over flow hoses. Is this normal temps. Gauge is reading higher goes to 3/4 and higher once I get off go pedal lowers down. Idles right in middle even lower speeds stays normal. Someone posted GED engineering site on Temps of CRD gauges but no longer available. Am I wasting money getting new radiator. Is there easier way to disconnect lower hose as I have never done this even when flushing. Should I try new coolant cap.

First order of business - Get rid of that Crown thermostat! They are all GARBAGE and that is guaranteed to be 90% of the problems you are having.

I'm not suggesting a specific option, there are several. Stock from IDparts is about $100, there are several aftermarket DIY versions, and then one very over-engineered (good) and expensive (not good) option from a member here.

But you need to replace that thermostat first of all. The different temperatures you are seeing is the key - everything has to flow through that housing, and the flow is not even or correct, because things are very far apart in temperature. The thermostat has failed closed, which is very very very bad.

Yes it's hot out and you engine will run hotter because of it.
Tell us what else was going on.
Were you towing or carrying a heavy load?
Accelerating hard up a mountain?
Reducing the throttle will reduce engine temp. Less fuel = less heat.
But what about the air conditioning? Did you try turning it off?

Yes, get rid of that crown thermostat.
And when getting temp readings, top of the thermostat is all that really matters.
