Anyone using one? http://www.stigan.com/stigan_turbocharger_847-1018.html
605 on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Genuine-Stigan-T ... automotive

Mine is getting loud on spool-up. It was wiggle free when I checked it about 1K ago.

About a year ago or so, someone reported installing a stigan turbo. Pretty sure he got it from Amazon too. He seemed happy with it at the time but have heard from him since.

A loud turbo?
Are you sure it's not a boost leak?
Check all your hoses and check the turbo shaft again.

Also, Sasquatch Motorsports has turbos for sale too.

Loud squeal, between 1500 and 2000 rpm typical in 1st gear. I tried to wiggle the inlet shaft with my fingers but no movement. Less after fresh oil service. Any other tests to do?

Does not "sound" like turbo. Have you looked at your serpentine belt idler? If it's doing more than just barely twitching then it's likely that your alternator decoupler pulley is shot, which can produce a loud squeal due to a slipping serp belt.

Probably just needs a good "WOT" wide open throttle.

I wonder what the improvements are over the stock turbo?

Found the problem: tear in the turbo inlet hose.

Well, the hose is on and the squeal is gone but I still have a lot of spool-up noise between 1500 and 2200 rpm when I get on it hard...which is frequent. I did check the end play of the turbo inlet again and did not feel any noticeable movement with my fingers. I did put some long nose pliers on the nut and did feel a slight up-down/side-side movement...guessing 0.01" or less. What it too much? Do they self-destruct without warning or just gradually get louder?

Take the vehicle out for a long drive and bring the engine temp up to optimal operating temperature, then perform the WOT (wide open throttle routine). It will purge out the carbon build up around the vanes that may be causing the noise.

Some movement is normal - the oil cushion is not present when the engine is off, so that is why you can move it around a little. The turbo will start making very loud screech type noises if something has worn to the point of contact - jingling sounds like keys dragging along a concrete surface are also bad sounds.

If the turbo is not making these noises but is just making whistle noises, check the air filter and inlet hose for holes. Normal paper air filter is all you want to use, I have seen the damage that a K&N causes: There will be obvious "polishing" of the turbo vane leading edges - this is from impact at extreme speeds with microscopic dirt in the air stream. CRDs that have always had a standard filter don't have this on their turbo vanes.

More whistling noises now might also indicate that the turbo is not spooling up as quickly as it was before, possibly due to carbon buildup on the control vanes OR insufficient vacuum supply. If the turbo performs well with the smaller vacuum solenoid bypassed, then that could be the problem too. The turbo compressor speed is directly related to being able to hear it. The shaft has to be spinning slow enough that the sound is below 20,000 Hz so that humans can hear it. Normal turbo operation spins past a 20 kHz sound very quickly - that is why you usually cannot hear them spool up on these, the turbo is too small and spins up way higher than we can hear. Big trucks and buses have much larger compressors that spin a lot slower, so we can hear them all the time.

I have never been able to hear the turbo on my Jeep CRD, but my hearing is not what it used to be either! I have been able to hear it a few times on my big Dodge Cummins diesel!
FYI: As to the K&N air filter, another downside I discovered on the Jeep is the fact that the filter oil that is sprayed on the cotton material to make it filter properly will transfer to the MAF sensor and cause it to trip the P0102 DTC.
Had to clean it good with the special MAF cleaner to get the oil off of it and stop the DTC's!
I went back to a paper filter for this reason along with the other problems they can cause...

I get a feeling that this turbo is what Sasquatch is selling minus the wicked wheel 2 installed. The pictures look the same to me.

This is not accurate.
