On the front of the oil pan, drivers side, under the skid plate, there is an Allen wrench style bung plug on the oil pan.... Can this be used to install a drain cock ? My oil pan drain plug is stripped and the insert the mechanic put in is not staying in place. (Comes out with drain bolt) Sent from my HTC Desire 510 using Tapatalk |

No, that cannot be used as a drain plug. That leads directly into the pressure side of the oil pump, pre-filter. No go there. Search my posts (advanced search) for "spark plug" and you will find the kit information for a solid collar replacement. I would suggest using some thread sealant on the collar when you screw it into the pan, this will give you a better seal. |

Geordi, I work a lot with thread sealants , but how do you keep the oil that seeps from the pan during the collar install , from getting on the threads? Or does it matter? Sent from my HTC Desire 510 using Tapatalk |

Aside from a really good draining and leaving it for a while... I shove some paper towels twisted up really tight (I use the heavy duty blue towels) into the newly-tapped hole to absorb as much oil as I can, and leave that for a good long while. Then coat the collar basically completely in threadlocker and drive it home to flush with the outside of the pan, before the oil has a chance to really gum up the works again. Tap it with the setting pin a couple times to lock it in, and put the plug in. Now leave it for at least a couple hours to let the threadlocker cure as much as you can. The other thing I use is a flat rubber washer on the new drain plug bolt. This should cross both the main threads and the outside threads of the collar, so there shouldn't be any leaks. |

On my 2005 liberty, the drain plug allen was stripped out, After spending 4 hrs looking for a new one, I learned it was a BSP (British Standard Pipe, 3/8 inch) hydraulic manifold plug!! Go figure. Found one at a Parker hydraulic hose supplier. |

BE AWARE: If you do the spark plug collar repair as detailed by me elsewhere on this forum, the thread size will be different from the F-102. I do not know the model number of the correct Fumoto, but the thread pitch will be M14-1.5. |
