The PO's shop flushed and refilled with standard green antifreeze just before I bought my CRD. Now that it's warm weather I am doing a flush, the old fashion way, filling, running, cooling and draining, repeated many times. Thought I had it pretty good with the flushing with just a hose, but when I ran it last time I could see a bit of green tint to the water coming out at the draining. I have not put a hose T in, because I've had bad experiences before leaving those in (they crack eventually and you loose all your coolant). I can of course keep doing this, but I am curious just how good a job does one have to do? I've read the posts and don't mind going thru this cycle a few more times, until it looks clear. But I'd like to know how picky I need to be. When the drain water after running the engine with the heater on comes out clear, can I call it good, do one more flush and then refill. How small an amount of the green antifreeze will react with the HOAT stuff. |

It is much easier to disconnect the hoses from the heater core and directly flush it that way. Same for the radiator and the engine block itself. Flush them individually with clear water from a hose until it is clear, and then reconnect, drain, and fill with HOAT. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |

Thanks Geordi. Probably right. But at this point I have done the fill-run-drain cycle maybe 5 more times, and the water is coming out pretty clear. I'll do it with distilled for a couple of rounds (been using de-ionized) and should be good to go. |
