Post subject:  Hose Sizes to Block CCV?

I'm thinking of running a hose off the CCV and just let it vent while waiting on a good filter. What size hose do I need? What should I use to block off the air intake? I saw a TDI today that had done this.

3/4" ID and a 3/4" OD PVC plug works great for the hose going to IC/intake and cost less then a quarter.

Thanks! Any idea on the type of hose to use to vent?

PVC clear works well.

3/4 inch I.D. heater hose works but may turn gooey from the oil after awhile. May want to find some silicone lined hose if you will leave it on for a long time. Used 3/4 inch I.D. clear vynal to intall the Provent which is working OK too.

Just wondering, when installing the Provent filter system, I take it you have to rig up your own hoses and stuff to get it hooked up? I was hoping maybe someone made a kit to fit it with all the correct hoses cut to length so I could save the old hose to put on in case of warranty work. So going with the "open air" vent, has anyone had problems with DTC's or engine performance? Getting ready to do something to mine since it is oiling up the intercooler hoses at 2700 mi. already. Thanks.

Mine has been open vent for 1500 miles now. No codes. Mine is routed down near the oil filter. I have yet to see it drip, but I also made it a point to bring the hose up high as I went by the coolant tank. I think this encourages drainback to engine. If you go open vent you will notice a cloud of water and oil vapor coming from under the vehicle. I've never noticed it during the day, but definitely at night at a stop light. As far as I know there is no vehicle specific kit available for the Provent. I would not cut the factory hose for either an open vent or a Provent system.

The new CCV filter I have been working to get produced should be ready for sales by the end of June or first of July. It will require no hoses and will be a 3 to 5 minute install, fit under the engine cover and can easly be installed by the inexperienced.

Remember the type and size of the stuff you did yours with? Can I get it at like Auto Zone? Thanks!

No joke, I have one of those large drip pans from Autozone on the garage floor under the Liberty.

Post subject:  new filter??

oldnavy, I will be anxious to see what your filter system is like, and yes I will be very interested in getting one too!! Keep us posted. :):)

p.s. has anyone seen much improvement by switching to 5w40 oil? Changing it this weekend to 5W40, then wiping out the hoses to see what happens. Can't believe there is this much blow by, any of my Cummins never had that much and it was about an inch clear hose draining down the side of the engine.

Yes it will help to switch to a real diesel synthetic 5w-40 oil of the likes of Rotella T, Mobil Delvac 1 or other brands.

If I remember right I bought 5 feet of 3/4 heater hose and wound up cutting off a foot of it. I bought a 3/4 hose barb to male garden hose thread adapter and a brass garden hose cap. The barb and cap are what I used to plug the existing line so the suction of the turbo couldn't pull in unfiltered junk. All this stuff was bought at Lowes - I was there for something else and had the crankcase vent on my mind. I wouldn't use heater hose for a Provent system, but I intend the open vent to be temporary.
