There is a CRD listed for sale on the interweb that has 29,000 miles and is a one owner vehicle. Price is high but reasonable if one could get another 130 to 150k miles out of it without having to hopefully not do much to it down the road.

As much as I love my new ride, it can't tow 5k pounds and its engine is too darn quiet.

No. Even at that mileage it's still a POS.

Things to factor, it will need a timing belt swap just on shear age. Egr delete as well. I'd say go for it.

If you both feel that the CRD is a POS, why do you still own them?

Because it's my baby, I've owned it since new and it needs me to look after it. I love it because it's my own but I wouldn't want to take on someone else's POS.

It's a hobby vehicle. I used to use it as a daily but since I found out how much a POS it is I only put about 5K on it per year now. It's fine for a bit of towing and turning heads at the pump but I wouldn't trust it for much else.

If mine were a POS, I wouldn't care about about what fluids and filters go in it.

Mine may look like a POS but I put almost 18k miles on it every year.

In my opinion they are a piece of junk IF your not mechanically inclined. I believe it was ahead of its time. Didn't stay in production long enough to work out the kinks, like the dip stick issue :ROTFL: Good luck in your choice!

why cannot you tow 5klbs?? the european version is rated for 7k?

you have to the change the timing belt and related parts..ASAP..time factor not mileage...
if you want to keep to for 120-150K more you have to do it again..

also you might think about head studs..EGR delete..lift pump..

so it up to you..if it means anything..
my wifes has around 140kmiles..replace the timing belt, injector pump..add SEGR and a lift pump..beyond that..brakes and tires..its coming due for a timing belt again..

sorry forgot to add.
replaced the glow plugs

Guys,
I know what the hell to do with a CRD. I owned one for 162k miles and just got rid of it. The one with 28k is an 05 and I like the traction control/ESP on an 06. That may be the deal breaker.

I didn't even notice what color it is in the ad. I shop on other factors and 29k miles is what took my breath away.

Wife already told me no. She wants me to spend more time outside of the garage.

If I got it, here is what I'd be in for:

Timing belt

Racor Fuel filter with heater and am Omega temp sensor

Kennedy inline lift pump. After dropping my wife's KJ CRD tank 3 times, I'm done dropping tanks and won't get an intank pump.

Check service records and if no record of new torque converter, add an upgraded TC with a new style front pump and trango shift kit.

Provent Crankcase ventilation filter

Ditch the ceramic glow plugs.

GDE Tune with EGR enhancement

Transmission Tune

Transmission fluid flush and filter replacement.

Antifreeze flush

New serp belt

Inspect brake lines

Flush brake fluid

Front/rear diff fluid replacement

Xfer case fluid replacement

Lube spline on driveshaft

Dump some redline in the engine to clean out internals which may have some sludge from short trip/city driving.

Start running B20 at first to clean out fuel system. Afterwords back to 2 stroke oil blended 50/50 with Diesel Kleen.

It'd be a lot of work and possibly worth it. In order to get this Rig, I have to offload two items: My new Santa Fe 2.0t and the wife.

And this.

The fact that I've put as much work and money as I have into it just to get it to run properly suggests it is in fact a POS. The ONLY thing that has improved performance a significant amount was the GDE Hot tune, everything else was to get it to run like any normal person would expect a car to run from the factory. I would absolutely consider this car a POS I am just hoping that once I replace almost every part in the engine bay with an upgrade it wont be anymore.

Being an auto enthusiast and someone who tends to be drawn to unique/odd vehicles, I am willing to put up with it. This car is very unique and I love it. Unless my wife takes it to work, chances are I will jump in the Jeep over my MUCH nicer F150. And at this point I've spent so much time under the hood that I dont think I could ever get rid of it without feeling shafted.

They were never going to work out the kinks. It sounds like many of the problems we are familiar with are repeating themselves on the EcoDiesel's as if the engineers never learned.

True.
Laziness and Profits probably have somewhat to do with it, but as long as manufacturers in the US market are not ALLOWED to address emissions (nox) in any other way besides EGR, any better solutions will never be developed. Those that have been developed, that also resulted in increased fuel economy, have been disallowed by the Department of Energy.

Why fix a bad solution that works badly, when it causes increased fuel consumption, (Good for oil companies, GREAT for IRS, since hwy taxes in this country are based on fuel consumption, rather than miles driven). Additional manufacturing industries, (ALL catalytic converters, soot burners, exhaust additives, etc) which industries, additionally add to the US economy.

Look at the increases in fuel economy GDE tunes commonly accomplish. This is just by rearranging 1's and 0's.

In fuel alone, if all vehicles in the US were to invoke a solution that increased fuel economy by just 5%; either with no increase in pollutants, or even with a reduction; This would result in a $1.7 BILLION reduction in road fuel tax revenue. If someone developed a way to accomplish this, that made Catalytic Converters UN-necessary, it would eliminate an entire industry, causing the price of Palladium to drop like a rock, virtually cutting in half the cost of your dental work involving fillings and crowns. (or doubling your dentist's profits) If they found a way to eliminate EGR systems, that would also sufficiently reduce NOx emissions... Every vehicle engine sold in the US would last, what, 10%... 20%... 50% longer? It's hard to imagine the list of industries that would take a blow because of that.

That's not counting the volume and profit (and tax revenue) reduction that would result from reduced Oil Company sales, and the price reduction from product oversupply it would cause.

And anyone thinks the Government is going to sit quietly and allow all that? Allow ANY of that? Are you freaking kidding me?

These are just a few of the reasons that they MANDATE the use of EGRs , Catalytic Converters, and other BAD solutions to emissions problems, rather than allowing human brilliance and ingenuity to develop better methods. These were methods put in place by the administration of the mid 1970s, and they created the DOE to cement them. This system, unlike our beloved vehicles, is working as intended, and is why it's results are mostly limited to the vehicle models sold in the US, and a few of that specification which made it overseas. The brilliance of corrupt politicians is overruling the brilliance of the people.

It's also well exampled by Ford's 6.0 and 6.4 engines. The engines work flawlessly and reliably in every market that doesn't fall under the restrictions governmental-ly
(notarealword) applied in this nation. Only HERE are all these true P'sOS.

/rant over.
I think
For now.

Bet none of those engineers ever owned and drove a Jeep CRD and had to deal (learn) of all the shortcomings and issues we have had to deal with and figure out how to upgrade, modify, or re-engineer to overcome some of these poorly engineered design flaws...

This forum is a godsend for any owner of a Jeep CRD!!!

I used to think this until I stuck my neck out to design the Hot Diesel Solutions Model 001, only to have it cut off by some ignorant members on this forum, and deal with the forum owner who pays lip service to my complaints after I paid her to be a vendor. There is no proper monitoring on this forum; members are allowed to make inappropriate characterizations of other members they do not like and factually incorrect statements.

Can you get some great information on LOSTJEEPS.com? Most definitely yes, but there is a lot of horse doo-doo as well.
