My 06 Liberty has 41, 300-ish miles. I haven't really been driving much it since I got the WK. I drove last week, when I leave the house I basically back out, put it in gear and idle down the hill. When I do, or when I very slowly idle starting downhill from a stoplight it hear a rattle kind of noise from the left of the engine. As soon as there's any accelerator applied it goes away and it doesn't seem to do it over 20-25mph. It's not all the time and I've never heard it yet idling in park.

I've tried to record it and my phone really doesn't pick it up. Since it sits so much, I thought it might be the alternator decoupler. Changed that today, no change. I did notice there is more play or movement of the engine on the drivers side. Wondering if it could be the engine mount. Hoping for suggestions.

Sounds like a motor mount to me

When I bought mine last month it rattled pretty badly at startup and when coasting on the freeway. New motor mounts seem to have fixed that. The mount on the driver's side actually had pieces inside rattling around - they could have been the source of the noise. Unfortunately I replaced both (and the trans) mounts at the same time, so I'll never know the specific culprit.

X2 to what others said:
Motor mounts can rattle internally especially the left front one....
After I replaced all three on my Jeep, both motor mounts and the transmission mount; the left front mount if you shook it by hand had a bad rattle internally....
I was totally amazed!!!
I had replaced the serpentine belt tensioner thinking that was the problem, not...

Engine rattle at idle is now completely gone, purrs like a kitten!!!

Thanks for the help. I ordered both sides from idparts tonight. I don't know why I thought decoupler right off and not motor mounts. I will change them this weekend.

I should have already put the jeep up for sale, can't quite seem to do it.
