Ok, So I bought another CRD. It's a dark khaki metallic 2006 with 85k miles. Its bone stock and it has some body damage. But besides that it seems to run and drive. I took that factory turbo out and installed it into my 2005 silver CRD that had white smoke coming out the tail pipe and it had a weird rattling sound coming from the engine and it had a fresh oil change at 105ish K miles, but at the time of prognosis the dipstick was bone dry. I assumed that it was a bad bearing and seal in the turbo and thats what was causing the oil loss and rattling sound. When I took the silver's turbo out I noticed that the downpipe was coated with wet oil and the oil feed line was dry and clean and so was the oil return line. Also the exhaust manifold was dry as well. After installing the factory turbo from the 2006 dark khaki into the 2005 silver one, and taking off the CAC hose, it was spitting out oil again into the CAC part and still white smelly smoke was coming out the back and the rattle is still there. What Do I Do Now??? |

The rattle noise may not have anything to do with the turbo, if the harmonic balancer does not have a good rubber seal inside it, that means it is failed. But it does sound like that turbo is also not good. If you send a message to naturist, he had a very good condition turbo that was for sale from his CRD. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I am having issues with my turbo as well. Did you mention someone has one for sale? I am almost positive mine is done. If that one you mentioned is spoken for does anyone else have an available one? |

don't just replace parts. diagnose it , you may not have turbo problem again . maybe intercooler is full of oil ? do you have oil in exhaust pipe ? from previous turbo failure? , are you loosing coolant , ? is exhaust smelling like unburned fuel ? can you remove turbo and manifold (CAP OIL SUPPLY LINE) run it and see where is the smoke coming from , start diagnosing one think at time . |

You should not be seeing oil spitting at you from the compressor (cold) side of the turbo when it is running without the airbox hose connected. To be certain - clean the compressor side with brake cleaner with both hoses disconnected from the turbo and the engine at idle. It will be messy. Once it is washed out, if there is STILL oil coming from it, then the forward thrust washer is no longer providing a good seal. This *may* be able to be rebuilt if the shaft doesn't have any side to side play indicating that the main bearing has worn open. The oil in the exhaust may take a long time to burn off, especially if there is a lot of it in there. |

I'm not sure about the intercooler. With the amount of oil coming out from the cold side, I wouldn't be surprised if the intercooler was. But it seems to be giving good flow through. Yes the entire downpipe is coated in a thick coat of oil. I'm not loosing coolant, but I was loosing oil. The smoke from the tailpipe was a white cloud and it smelled regular, just a little bit more potent. Im also straight piped with no exhaust and no resonator. |

I installed the brand new turbo into the 2006 dark khaki one and its clean with no spitback at all as it should be and also the downpipe was clean in the 2006. That's what I was told about regarding the downpipe and exhaust having to burn off the leftover oil. But I will try the clean with brake fluid method and then see what's happening. but I'm still at a loss for what could be rattling somewhere near the bottom drivers side end of the engine. It sounds/seems like a nut bouncing around. But nothing on the exterior of the engine and block is rattling. |

Take the harmonic balancer off, and start the engine without the serpentine belt installed. That will rule out any of the front accessories - but I think it will be the balancer making the noise. |
