nothing is ever as simple as it seems. the carter pump electrical connector has 4 pins, I would think 2 for fuel gauge and 2 for power to the pump. where does one get a plug to fit the one on the pump? carter said the pump is from a 2005-09 dodge. does the wires from the sending unit need to be transferred to a new plug? I read the nooby post but it just confused me. thx bob |

The plug under the rear seat already has the pump wiring installed, so you just need to make the connection from that plug to the pump. If you do go with the V6 gas harness I believe you need to repin a few of the wires as the plug under the rear seat of the CRD has different pin outs than the V6. Its easy, you just gotta do your homework and make sure you are repinning correctly. I think Sasquatch parts sells a plug and play lift pump harness as well but that came out after I did my pump so I just used the V6 unit since I didnt want to track down the appropriate pins for the OEM connectors. |

These two links below will answer any questions concerning installing an in-tank lift pump and / or wiring it up properly. http://www.auerbach.ca/kj/lift_pump/ viewtopic.php?t=26385&highlight= |

what does the factory plug on the sending unit that comes with the 2006 look like on the crd? is it 2 pin or four pin. tried to find a pigtail for a 2005-09 dodge for the pump but came up empty. |

See this thread for some excellent pictures of the fuel pump/tank sending unit harness modification!!! viewtopic.php?p=328862&highlight=lift+pump#328862 Seth at Sasquatch also has some good pictures of the harness and ends on his web site at:> https://shop.sasquatchparts.com/product ... berty-crd/

foxhunter wrote: aha, now I know what I am looking for, excellent. many thanks Back in 13 when I installed my lift pump, I simply opened up the OEM harness and connectors and added the two additional wires & APEX terminals to the existing connectors... Opening up the connector plugins is kind of a pain, but can be done if performed carefully. Watching some videos helped a bunch!!! Added two additional wires/terminals to the fuel tank module end connector, and one wire & terminal to the connector under the rear seat. The other wire is simply a earth ground wire and is terminated with a ring terminal to the body for a good ground. NOTE: The OEM harnesses are available for gassers Liberty's and can be used but require moving the terminals around a bit in the connectors for the Jeep CRD's needs. The harness for the 06 gasser is very pricey, not sure why it cost so much more than the 05, maybe the anti-lock brake additional wires??? foxhunter wrote: I'm thinking, rather than moving pins around it would be easier to wire the pump into the wiring harness before the wiring harness plug since there are only 4 wires. the two outside are the pump power and the 2 inside are the furl gauge sending unit (as per carter tech) I think this is what is on the sending unit from the factory, though I have not dropped the tank to see. if not I think this plug will fit the plug on the carter. Agreed, I contemplated bypassing the connector under the rear seat as well and just splicing the power wires together since the other wire just simply goes to ground; but decided I wanted it to look factory installed!!! Connector picture Looks correct to me!!! |

if you look inside the connector there are just the 2 center connectors showing as though it was just the two center wires for the sending unit. I'm in to function rather than looks, just have to decide how I want to do the splice. I prefer a bare butt splice with shrink wrap but could do it as a quick disconnect . |

Either splice would function, but I would defer to a butt splice with heat shrink tubing as it would be a more plausible option than just a simple quick disconnect... The splice is after all inside the vehicle under the rear seat and hopefully will never be exposed to any outside environment conditions... |
