3500kg towing and 140kg tongue weight. WOW! For the Jeep Cherokee(Liberty) KJ 2.8 CRD. What the heck is the difference?

Europe is strange, heck the VW TDI Jetta was rated 5000 lbs in Europe, but the hitch is lot better and fits the frame on that car and at that wt requires trailer brakes. My guess is you have an equalizing hitch, and it would probably require trailer brakes for over 3000 lbs to be legal. I would not want to tow 7900 lbs with the CRD without electric brakes, and over about 35 or 40 mph speed.

750kg and more weight you have to have brakes on your trailer. I am renting one so I am sure it will have all the things I need. I have seen Ford Focus's towing 19 ft travel trailers on the autobahn at 60 mph.

It might be that you ordered it after market rather than shipped with the KJ. DC rates the capacity lower if it is not ordered from the factory.

Still at 3500kg that is WAY more than anything in the US. It took 15 minutes to install the hitch. 2 side plates, center conectiong plate and then the "ball". The only issue is the stupid cable harness that it came with. Was not a plug-n-play I ordered. So not I had to order the one from Chrysler at $250!
