So not to hijack an old and not directly related thread, I started this one. If you want a beast of a direct drive fan for towing or just summer cooling, I got the following info from Mass-hole: mass-hole wrote: I used a flex A lite 1519 fan, a flex a lite 851 pulley adapter and a flex a lite 14528 1" fan spacer kit + a 14524 1/2" spacer to get the fan to sit inside the stock shroud. You could probably get away with just the 1" spacer. I originally just had the 1/2" spacer but the fan sat pretty far back out of the shroud so I bought the additional 1" spacer. Turns out that there is still 2.5" space from the fan to radiator with the 1" fan spacer, so I will probably swap out for the 2" spacer. Also be aware that the tapped holes in the 851 pulley adapter are 5/16-24, but the bolts that come with the spacers are 5/16-18, so you'll need a trip to the hardware store unless there is a spacer that comes with 5/16-24 bolts. I'll also be swapping back to a fan and fan clutch for the winter, but it's pretty easy to change these out. |

See also viewtopic.php?f=5&t=51618&hilit=fixed . I had this on for a while around the time geordi and I installed the GDE Stage II turbo on my 05. Worked ok 1. a bit on the noisy side around town at speeds below say 45mph 2. you could hear it if you listened at highway speeds 3. seemed to overcool a bit. At least on the road from Savannah to Tally (back way US 84 via Waycross, Valdosta, Thomasville) in summer with AC temp needle stayed steady normal at highway speeds but when I came into a town and stopped at a traffic light the temp needle drop a tic. Eventually went to gasser nylon fan and Hayden fan clutch. |

You want the back of the blades slightly exposed out of the back to help flip the air out circumferentially, not just straight back. I have not noticed overcooling with mine. It might drop a couple of degrees below the T-stat temp if I am sitting in a parking lot. But not more that 5-7 degrees. |

I think you are right because the fan seems to be in about the same position as stock. Also, the correct part numbers for the spacers with the right bolts (5/16-24) for the 851 hub are 14548 for 1" and 14556 for 2". |

papaindigo wrote: Thanks for the link. I should have searched deeper. I didn't read all 8 pages of that thread, and I see in the beginning Kap machined his spacer. To summarize, the parts to do it without machining, are a flex-a-lite 1519 fan ($60), 851 hub ($55) and 14548 1" spacer which comes with the correct bolts ($22), so the interested party will have $137 into this. Peanuts compared to everything else I've spent on this vehicle. I'll keep a OE fan and fan clutch for cold months, and in case this thing is too noisy as mentioned by Papaindigo. But I think this gives me piece of mind when towing even if it hits me in the wallet for the outlay, and the lower mpgs. |

I got some of the parts shipped from advance auto and used their 30% off coupon they always have(TRT30?) The rest I ordered from Amazon. I think all in I was around $90. |
