http://www.enginebuildermag.com/2013/12 ... reatments/ Very interesting stuff. I wonder if we could get our exhaust valves coated? I would have spent 200 or so for the insurance when I had mine apart. I'm really going for that 500k plus miles on my engine. |

My last couple diesel builds I used these guys to do the pistons, (skirts and domes) https://www.jcmmachineandcoatings.com/ He really wanted me to send him my main and rod bearings too.. Click around on his webite on the product description and uses.. I went with them just because they were the closest to me. I noticed an immediate cold start improvement. The thermal barrier on the dome kept more heat on top of the pistons. This is in an older Cummins that has no grid or glo plugs. |

Im doing this myself, for the most part any diy’r can tackle it. When you get to things like building up a piston skirt is when it takes more of a professional, regardless the process is simple... 1) etch the parts with 120grit aluminum oxide blasting media, NO GLASS BEADS! 2) throughly clean with acetone 3) bake at 450°f for 1 hour to burn off any residual oil and acetone 4) mask off what you dont want covered and apply coating with an airbrush 5) cook at 350°f for 1 hour to cure Im using techline coatings cbx for the piston tops/ cylinder head, valve faces and back of ex valve, and also the turbochargers turbine. The exhaust port, manifold, and turbine housing will be internally coated to keep as much heat in the exhaust as possible. Piston skirts, main and rod bearing, thrust bearing, cam lobes and bearing, tappets all getting ceramic dry film lubricant. This isnt for our vm 2.8, but a mechanical isuzu 2.8 diesel. |

I should add the 3oz bottle of cbx is only $30, little more for the dry film, and can do a couple engines. If you dont have a blasting cabinet and media you may be better just having it done. |
