Post subject:  NAPA Silver vs. NAPA Gold CRD air filters

Noticed something interesting while browsing NAPA's website for CRD air filters this morning.

The NAPA Silver air filter for the CRD is listed as being manufactured by Wix, and Wix' part number for it is 42329. Current price is $12.49 in our neck of the woods.

The NAPA Gold air filter for the CRD is also listed as being manufactured by Wix, and also carries a Wix part number of 42329. This one costs $17.99, however.

According to NAPA's product page for the Gold air filter, it has more filter media than the other filters, and the filter element has been treated to resist moisture ingestion. However, it shows the same Wix part number as the Silver filter.

Granted, this could be a mistake in NAPA's catalogue, but it's interesting as Wix' own catalogue only lists one air filter part number (42329) for the CRD. There's a gold filter currently installed in the KJ; I've ordered a Silver to do some comparisons with.

Explanation from the store as to why the Silver filter was listed as having the same part number as the Gold air filter: NAPA is discontinuing Silver air filters across the board, with Gold being the replacement. It's likely that the only reason the Silver filter showed as available for order is that there's probably a few still kicking around in inventory somewhere in the country. This was per the manager of the store I had ordered it from.

Anyway, it appears as though the options are either the basic air filter, or the Gold one. Mystery solved.
