| Post subject: | 2.8 crd transmission pump gasket? |
Hi my transmission died on my 2005 model 2.8 crd. looks like the torque converter. have ordered a new one and also a new transmission pump part no. 68009879AB. I've read on the threads here that this new style transmission pump requires a different gasket from the original but i can't find any other info related to this. does anyone have a part no for this gasket? the pump i bought doesn't come with one. or what did people do if they didn't have the correct gasket for this? thanks for any info! |

The gasket is on the front cover - the old style had a two-piece design with a pressed-in gasket on the center of the cover. The new style is integrated. Did you get a new cover with the front pump? If you ordered from IDparts, you should have. |

thanks for the reply. i'm in ireland so my choices of where to buy are extremely limited. i was quoted €1300 for a new pump from the jeep dealership here and even then it had to come from italy. i sourced one in germany for €400. it comes with a cover but the seller says there is no gasket with it. when people talk about the gasket are they talking about the o-ring seal? i bought this seperately part no. 4799003. i've also ordered the transmission oil pump seal part no. 04617919. is this what people are talking about? the part no printed on the pump cover from the pic in the ad is 52119859aa. the seller states that the pump and cover are new and are mopar. am i worrying over nothing? my jeeps transmission hasn't been taken apart yet so all i have to go on is pictures and forum posts etc. i'm trying to source all the correct parts to give to my mechanic to complete the job so i can get back on the road asap. car rental is expensive here! |

Here is a link to the front pump sold by ID parts. They say you need the seal you apparently ordered and a front shaft seal so you may need to order the shaft seal also. Hope this helps. https://www.idparts.com/transmission-oi ... -7534.html Here is the shaft seal they sell https://www.idparts.com/oil-pump-shaft- ... -3389.html |

Click on the first picture on the right - the pump and cover. This is the "new" style, see the black ring that is in the center hole? That's the shaft seal that is now a part of the cover. If your cover looks like that, then you are good. There's a big o-ring around the outside of the cover, but that center seal is what all the fuss is about. |

Thank you everyone for the replies! Much clearer now. It looks like by luck I've already ordered both the outer cover o-ring seal and the inner pump seal for the pump cover. If the cover which comes with the new pump already has them in it then no worries. I'll have spares for the future! |

If the cover arrives as the new style, then the center seal is not needed - as it is part of the cover entirely. Hopefully the pump does come with the new cover, and you likely won't need to ever go into the transmission again if everything behaves as it should. |
